Has anyone tried the Bobby Jones Wedges. The concept sounds
good but I've heard lots of claims. Who has them for sale? If you have
tried them please let me know what you think.

I'm also very interested. Particularly in how long they claim they will last. I love my Cleveland wedges. But having wedges that will last a long time, sounds like a great bonus. I've heard lots of positive things about the guy who designs the clubs, but still haven't heard much as far as people who actually use the products.

I've requested a review, but they're holding back while they fix some lingering issues. When they fix them, we'll get a review up as quickly as we can.

Erik -

If you could do me a favor when you write the review regarding these wedges, please inquire if you would as to why they do not have left handed availability in these wedges? I'm interested in these pieces but was disappointed to read they were right handed only.

Thanks,

A review would be great. I saw the obviously biased adds running on t.v. and would love to see the review.

Actually I just caught the infomercial for them the other day. Of course in the grand tradition of infomercials, they paint thess wedges with such a brush that the viewer is awe stricken.

I'd take interest to putting them in my bag for a round, but at $149 a club I won't be buying them any time soon.

I tend to think it's more the player than the wedge. Years ago, there was a set of wedges that had a special coating on the face to provide added spin and they just didn't take off.
Over the years, I've used Mizuno, Titleist, Cleveland, Ram, and Callaway wedges and found that they all provide about the same amount of spin. My fall back wedge is a Titleist Tri-sole 56 that I can pretty much do anything with. It spins will and barely has any grooves left.
In "the search for the Perfect Golf Swing" , research found that grooves on a club had very little effect on ball spin compared to a clubface with no grooves whatsoever. The research further found that a player adjusts to his club, no matter what the clubface is like...thus reinforcing the old theory of "the more I practice the luckier I get".
If I were inclined to spend $150.00 per club for 4 clubs, I'd probably think again and spend the $600.00 on golf lessons.
And...don't believe that garbage on the infomercial about the more you practice the more your clubs work against you. I've found, as most of us have, the more you practice properly, the better you get...no matter what clubs you play.

I actually hit the 64 degree X wedge today. SOmeone at my club had it. I will give the best review I can after only hitting 10 balls with it.
Appearance- The club looks fabulous. Very traditional and the face has a "spin milled" look to it.
Feel- The club feels very good in the hands and at setup. It feels as though it is very solid. It reminds me of the 1st time I put the Orlimar fairway wood in my hand years ago and thought, this is solidly built. Ironically same club maker.
Shots- The impact is what you would expect from a 64 degree club. Easy to hit, very solid. Good weighting and results. The balls lands softly as advertised.
Final- The club does put a HUGE amount of spin on the ball. Very similar to what I experienced with Cleveland, Vokey, and Callaway (mack daddy grooves). The look of the club makes me want them.
Overall I think they belong on the short list of very good wedges. Im not ready to jump just yet until I get to try out the others (he says his 52 and 56 are coming). But definately reminds me of the other Bobby Jones clubs. Very well built. Have not tried the driver yet, but the hybrids are as advertised. I was in shock at the thought that the infomercial might actually be correct. Im not ready to say they are the best I have played, but they belong in the conversation as far as this reviewer is concerned.
I will put up a full review on Friday once I try out the other wedges.

After asking for any experience with the Bobby Jones wedges I ordered one. Here is my review and experience--

I think the concept is great, I liked the look of the club but after using my vokeys for so long, this wedge was so heavy(D5+) I felt as if I would have to alter my swing to make them work for me. Generally I have a very easy controlled swing and I found with the weight of this clubhead all I could feel was the clubhead.

Now I am no authority on the concept and can only confirm what my experience was. Dave Pelz theory is the added weight will benefit most golfers around the green.......I don't disagree with this theory. I expect my wedges to work from 130 yards in and not just around the green. I liked the look of the club, the shaft felt a little whippy for me. They do impart a considerable amount of spin, but I did not see performance improvement or noticeable spin performance over the vokeys.

I really liked the look and the theory, yet I have 14 clubs and I already have one specifically for the green, and one specifically for the tee box; and I did not feel the additional cost reflected any additional performance.

I returned mine because I did not see enough improvement in performance over the vokeys to justify the additional cost.

Hope this helps some of you make a decision.

All current Vokey spin-milled wedges are D5.

http://www.titleist.com/golfclubs/we...spinmilled.asp So are the Bobby Jones clubs D5 or are they "heavier"? Their site doesn't seem to say.

    • It's been a little more than a year since I can last remember hitting golf balls and today I just got my second cortisone injection in 11 months. I thought maybe shortly after the first injection I was going to be able to start playing again with therapy but the pain while doing my backswing past halfway just didn't subside like just lifting my hands up in the air did. So today the Orthopedic surgeon put more in the backside of the shoulder than before to address the tendon more. I'm going to try therapy for another 3 months and if I  can't swing the club without pain then I think surgery is going to be my next option.
    • I was just down visiting family in southern California and we played a couple rounds of golf. I hit my ball into the deep rough near some tree's and my cousin's husband offered me his Sim 2 Rescue Hybrid to try out. And I felt the same way, wow! I loved it, it also had a Pure DTX grip on it which I loved. As soon as I got back home, I ended up buying two used Calloway Rogue X hybrids, 3 and 5. So far I've only tested them out at the range, but I love them. They're much more forgiving than irons for me.
