What does your CLOTHING say about you?

After reading the thread on what your bag says about you, I began thinking on this, perhap more subtle character trait--What does the clothing you wear on the course say about you? I always try to at least look the part, even if I can't act it. Playing mostly on local muni's I HATE seeing the guy wearing jeans, or an untucked, collarless tee shirt, gym pants, or the absolute sin: The Sleeveless, Untucked, Collarless Tee Shirt. Even if they are talented, just kind of takes away from the aspects of class and gentlemanly play that I admire about the game.

I realize many of play on courses where there are far more strict dress codes, but I'm sure you still have the usual suspects.

Me? Usually slacks, sometimes khakis, collared shirt (Old Navy has some good ones), and the baseball hat of whichever travel course/resort I last dropped some dough at.

It depends some days it says:

"I dress nice, but I can't golf today"

or

"I dont tuck my shirt in, but I can golf"

I dress in proper golfing attire. Always boot cut pants and collared shirt. I try to match but it's tough when your shoes are black and gold.

I can't stand to see jeans on the golf course. You're not working construction, you're playing golf. Look presentable.

I cant wear shorts, because my golf shoes are black and really pointed.

my course has a strict dress code i usally wear khakis or slacks and a golf shirt(addidas nike) and match one of my three hats as best possible

I think traditional golf wear is silly. I think it's silly that golf actually has a dress code and that you will be considered (judged?) to be something other than a gentleman if you don't wear a polo shirt tucked into a pair of slacks.

My home course is very nice, and the only dress code is 'no tank tops or sleeveless T's'. I usually golf in a pair of baggy Dickies or shorts and a T-shirt or hawaiian shirt, untucked. If I wear shorts I wear quarter socks to let the ankles get a little sun. I usually wear a plain visor and my Oakley Gascans or some cheap 80's shades.

I am glad I am not alone. I'll have to get me a pair of all black or all grey golf shoes.

It's too hot here in Houston to play in slacks, so I usually play in cargo shorts and a collared shirt. I save the t-shirts for the range or yard work...

Same here in Austin,Texas. I am going to get a pair of either the Nike or Addidas tech pants for the fall and my trip to Pebble in July.

I usually am in some Nike Dri-tech shorts and a shirt from some course I have played. I have probably twenty different hats I always find one that looks decent. Right now I have some back foot-joys...I dont like white shoes because they always look dirty to me.

I take a great deal of pride in my appearance. I always wear a nice golf shirt and slacks or golf shorts, and I always tuck my shirt in. T-shirts, jeans, gym clothes, and sleeveless shirts have no business on a golf course IMHO. Not everyone can be a good golfer but they can look like a good golfer.

usually collar polo with some kind of plaid shorts and white nike golf shoes, and for cold weather i go with the slacks..now its a toss up wether or not the shirt is tucked in. Really just depends on how I feel. And the must is a nice nike dry fit fitted hat. The classic looks I guess. Alot better then the last time i took my little brother out, he showed up in jean shorts, button up long sleep dress shirt (with the sleeves rolled up) and some tennis shoes on oh and i almost forgot the top 2 buttons where undone so you could see his awesome wife better underneath..the most embarrassing golf experience of my life needless to say

I have yet to ACTUALLY hit the course, but I have called ahead to inquire about dress code. Both local courses said no t-shirts, but cargo shorts are fine.

I'll probably be wearing cargo shorts and a polo. It's too hot here (South GA) to wear pants all day in the summer.

I always dress in some kind of collared shirt and usually shorts because I consider 75* hot. With a polo shirt I pretty much never tuck it in. This is because I feel like it binds me up but if it is the course rules to tuck it I have no problem doing it.

I remembered to dress myself today! Usually khakis or khaki shorts and one of many Under Armour or Climacool shirts. Gotta match the IU hat though. Only time I wear t-shirt is when I am at the 'rents course and I am "working" maintenance. Ie; on vaca and just cruising around catching up with the regulars.

(IMO): I think you're silly. No one is making you wear a perfectly fitted polo under an argyle sweater vest tucked into slim chinos. However, you definitely went for the complete opposite and probably look quite un-presentable and lame. Baggy is never good unless you have tons of junk to cover up. Your choice for tops doesn't sound too promising either. I only wear tees if I'm lazy and am only hitting the range or playing a couple holes after school. Hawaiian shirts are goofy. Attire says the world about you. If I were in the position of hiring someone without actually having spoken to them, you bet I'm going to pick the most presentable and well/appropriately dressed person 10 times out of 10. Right when you see someone, you start making judgements about them based off of how they look, how they're dressed, and how they carry themselves (whether you actively think about it or not). I hate when I see people dressed like trash on a golf course. I think an unspoken rule in golf is to look semi-presentable while you play. I think I'd have a hard time choosing between playing with a sharply dressed 20 handicapper with a bad attitude and an affable scratch player who is wearing a cutoff tee with jean shorts and crappy running shoes. That's how much looks affect me. I'm aware that I'm much more conscious about appearance than most people so that should be taken into account when reading what I wrote. I have pretty standard attire when I golf. Well-fitted polo (sleeves may vary but are AT LEAST halfway up my upper arm)(may or may not be tucked in depending on the individual shirt and how long it is but usually yes), chino shorts or pants depending on the weather but usually from now on is shorts, brown leather belt and my adidas tour360 shoes. If it's a bit nippy or windy, I wear a north face wind breaker; it's perfect for golf... lightweight and thin, but still blocks a lot of wind and is water resistant.

Dressed for the conditions!!!

The microfiber collared short sleeve polo was ultra comfortable today on the course and it was very warm outside too. The new high tech fabrics are really something....a serious upgrade over normal cotton golf shirts. You owe it to yourself to get some!!!!!

Had on some kahki shorts, fairway green shirt tucked in and first button done and a nice golf belt on. Golf hat was kahki, too. I looked the part, at least.

I have a couple pairs of shoes as well but I prefer sneakers on warm dry days. If you are swinging well and under control than you don't need spikes on dry grass really. I have no problem tucking my shirt in but if it's not long enough than I will leave it untucked because I hate tucking it in again after every shot. How I dress really doesn't say that much about me as I am a very professional fella but when I am on the golf course I am there for fun and to relax while kicking some butt. No need to dress like a wannabe.
