Thoughts on Golf Tee's

Has anyone ever seen a unbiased study on golf tees. I see all the claims of low CF and no spin, clean takeaway and such. What are the facts?

i've used every tee from brush to zero friction to the regular tees..and now epoch tees. epoch feel the best, are easier to place the ball than zero friction...and are almost unbreakable. i'll go 3 or 4 rounds off of the same tee sometimes.

I use the Zero Friction tees and love them. I can't say for sure that I hit my drives longer or straighter because of them, but I feel that I do.

Even if there is no difference in distance and accuracy (and I feel there is), the durability of these tees is incredible. I bought a pack of 50 and have given at least 30 away to friends...and I have at least 15 left. I've never broken one, but I have lost a few. Erik did a review on these a couple years back. The Zero Friction ones are ok, but I didn't really see any performance gain (in terms of golf shots) over a standard wood tee.

They obviously don't break as easily as wood tees, but they do break eventually (especially if you play on a course where the ground gets hard in the summer). Also, when the ground gets hard I think they can sometimes be more difficult to put into the turf than a standard wood tee.

Personally I just elect to spend the money on big bags of wood tees.

Oh, and on a side note, I can't stand the brush tee. It looks like your golfball is sitting on Bart Simpson's hair!

I've played with many of the "high end tee's" but have yet to see any real performance enhancement. Eventually I fell in love with flourescent pink and green tee's for some reason. It's become just something I do now... plus, they are easy to spot.

I played Pink zero frictions once but after blowing throw them I just didnt feel the need to spend the extra money on them.

I like stinger tees, really sharp so they get in the firmest of grounds.

Gimme a tee of any type....as long as it's wooden.

I'll admit, though, I've never dabbled into the realm of tee exploration although I have tried using longer tees. I suspect I'll need to stock up on longer tees when I finally update my driver to one of the 460cc models.

I'm just a beginner who has yet to play a single round, and I have ZERO consistency. BUT, I typically drive better off the Zero Friction tees. Coinidence? Maybe.

I remember seeing an article in Golf Digest about different kinds of tees and their effects on distance.

I usually use short tees since I launch my driver pretty high.

My wife got me a 50 pack of Zero Friction almost two years ago. Still have most of them (never had one break - only lost them). The ball does seem to come off those tees a little better than others for me. Placebo effect... maybe. But see results none the less. So if it's all in my head, don't tell me!

I use the epochs and zero friction, the zero friction seem to be a little bit more durable, but as others have mentioned the epochs are easier to place the ball on. Both last quite a while and that is why I use them, I would rather just have a few in the bag, instead of carrying quite a few wooden tees with me.

Haven't really noticed a difference in performance, but I guess you have to put a consistent golf swing on the ball to see a difference

I'm struggling to understand how a tee can make a substanial difference.

Length....sure...that much is obvious...get your ball the right height for driver


Sharpness....sure....shoves into the tee ground easier



Aside from that I'm lost as to other benefits....except perhaps durability.

I think the thought is less ball/tee surface area contacting, less friction, less energy lost. Although I would think the differance would be minimal if there is any, but I am no physicist.

I just started using Stingers after using Zero Frictions for the past 2 years. I use the 3 1/4" competition tees. Other than the fact that they are hard to get (you have to order them online and are not carried by the big shops like TGW or Golfsmith), they are perfect. Performance wise, I can't notice the difference between the ZF and the Stingers, but the stingers are easier to get into hard ground, don't mark soft balls like the ZFs sometimes do, and last just as long.

I love the Epoch tees too, they come in a package of 40 long tees and 10 short tees for use with hybrids or irons off the tee. I keep one of each in my pocket and have been playing with them for a couple of weeks now - the same exact ones. I gave one of them to a friend and he has been using it the same amount of time.

In my experience they are truly unbreakable, I laugh when I look in my bag at the 47 tees that are left in there, while the three I've pulled out have shown no signs of breaking any time soon. I doubt I'll ever have to buy tees again.
