OK, I've decided I want to carry four wedges including the pitching wedge. That means I'll have a 48* 52* 56* 60*. That means I need to sacrifice a club to keep it at 14. I decided to get rid of my 5 wood. I have driver at 10.5* Fairway wood at 15* and then hybrids at 20* and 23*. Does this sound logical? Any opinions would help, thanks.

I think getting rid of the 5 wood in your situation is a good choice. The 20* hybrid should be close in distance to the 5 wood. For me, I just have 3 wedges including the PW. The other two are a 52* and a 58*. I decided to get the 58* instead of having a 56* and 60* to save a space in the bag.

im kinda in the same boat as you right now. i have a 46º, 52º, 56º right now, but just recently dropped my 5 wood to pack in a 60º. i like my 5 wood a lot better than my 3 wood so i think in the end i might sacrifice my 3 wood to get the extra wedge. i hit my 3 wood about 260 off the deck and about 270-275 off the tee. my 5 wood is about 240-250 off the deck and around 260 off the tee. i hit my 5 a lot more plus have a ton more control with it. tuff call

I'm probably the wrong person to ask for this because my putting is so bad right now that I just took out my 2 iron to make room for two putters. I only have a 46* pw, a 50* gap wedge and a 56* sw. If you take time to practice flops with your 56*, it's like gaining an extra club on the other side of your bag.

I hope I'm not out of line, but in my opinion, there is no way a 32 handicap should be carrying that many wedges.
Learning to hit just a 56* PROPERLY, at 25%, 50%, 75% etc on a consistent basis should cover almost any situation you'll come across at that stage in a golfer's career. Carrying so many wedges is just going to confuse the decision making process.

so far i've sacrificed a goat to ma'at and a sheep to baal for my wedges. seems to be working as the gods seem to be tugging on my ball with a string getting it closer to the hole

remember... your bag isn't permanent! I also carry four wedges but always have a 3 iron handy and some extra clubs depending on the conditions (ie wind) or the course... long vs short, wide vs tight

its always nice to have options, just plan accordingly

I understand that. Actually I'm just getting back into the sport after not playing for a couple of years. I've decided to take my lumps, and get some lessons so I can get better. The 32 is just a guess on my part.

Be careful, you don't want Moses throwing range balls at ya from the woods.

Taking out the five-wood seems the best thing to do. I did the same thing, carry driver, 15 3-wood, 22 hybrid, 4-pw, 52, 56, 60, and it works great, but in my case, i hardly ever need to hit a club a 5-wood distance ( if I do I'll just hit soft 3).

In my old set I did the same ditched the 5 wood (only because I couldn't hit woods, only hybrids) and 3-4 irons and had a 4 set wedge and it worked well for me until I learned to chip and run with my 7 and 9 irons so eventually got rid of the gap and sand (my lob wedge doubles as my sand wedge), and changed my entire iron set. And then I invested and learned to hit woods. Still, I'll probably ditch my 19* or 22* hybrid in favor of a 52* wedge again sometime soon. Am still finding the right combo for me or what would suit each course i'll be playing.

Assuming you play on the same course nearly every time, ask yourself which club you rarely use on that particular course. Regardless, I suspect it's going to be the 5-wood like everyone else above said, because people always like to have the "go for it" club from the fairway; that's the 3-wood unless you hit driver off the deck. Meanwhile you gotta get rid of something else and it sure isn't going to be your pitching wedge or an iron, right? Might as well get rid of the club with the lowest likelihood of ever landing you on the green: the 5-wood.

Myself, I'm not good enough with a 5-wood to hit greens consistently, so I found myself a 2-iron replacement hybrid (17 or 18 degree, I forget). The idea is that the shorter club will be easier for me to aim, and so far so good. I use it off the tee in lieu of 3-wood on short par 4s, and I have good success with it. (My only question is if it's truly farther than my fancier 21 degree hybrid.) I pulled out the gap wedge for two reasons: First, I have better luck just hitting a medium pitching wedge onto the green as opposed to a full-strength gap, and second I don't have any use for it in my short game. It's difficult enough to master the pitching wedge and sand wedge; my pitching imagination doesn't have room for the gap wedge right now. I only keep the 60 degree for those emergency situations. If I were a scratch golfer I might have more use for the gap wedge. (Although curiously enough, even most pros seem to skip the gap wedge.)

I agree with Chris5573,getting rid of the 5 wood was a good choice,the 20*
hybrid plays the same.I also carry 4 wedges 46,52,56 and a 60.But if its windy
i replace the lob wedge with a 1 iron hybrid.

I got rid of the 3W, I hit the 5W almost as far, and I'd rather lay up to a wedge yeardage on the par 5's anyway, the 5W is more controllable, hit it about 215 add 250 for the drive and that's 465, leaving a yardage for one of the 4 wedges.

I carry a 46* (from my set), a 52*, 56*, and 60*. I basically took the 4-iron out of my bag.

I carry a 3, and 5 wood, a 21* hybrid, and then 5-PW. I'm guessing it's one of the more interesting arraignments, but it works very well for me. I always have the "right club" for me from 250 in, although oddly enough, it's the 80 - 90 yard range that gives me fits. My gap wedge is too long, and I don't always get there with my sand wedge.
