Lately, I can go on and on about the new clubs I want: Irons, wedges, new bag, new shoes etc etc. I really don't need a new bag or new shoes, but I end up buying things anyways.

I bought a fairway wood which was a good purchase seeing as my old one came from a starter set. Out of nowhere I decided I wanted a putter, so I bought a Yes! Tiffany Last Night. My friend just brought up that he bought new shoes that are too small, and although I already have black shoes, I want white ones and am thinking of buying them off him. Then after that I'll be saving up for some Titleist 755's. I really feel I don't need to be making these purchases but Then again all of my equipment is so old. I can't really decide to myself If I need this stuff or not.

I feel i should be saving my money because I'm only a teenager, but I always think, its better purchasing equipment then on Food, Drugs, Alcohol, and Gambling right?

Do you ever find yourself purchasing equipment at random? Like as If as soon as you get one new peice of equipment you get hooked and need to buy more? Its happening to me!!

Yes... It started with a new Driver... Then a complete equipment makeover. Now I am eyeing a new bag and new shoes.

I am always on ebay looking for a deal on something that I dont need.

No - I have a wife

LMAO!

Dent, I am getting married at the end of the month. Of course knowing this I spent all winter buying new clubs. I first bought a new wedge, then that led to a new putter, and new irons, and new 5 wood. I made sure to get the set that I wanted before the wedding. I know that after the wedding what I got is what I got. What I am trying to say is that you have plenty of time to save money. You need to have fun when you are a teenager. This is the time to be buying the things you want because you have disposable income. So take advantage of it.

Yes, I started to browse for a new driver and 2 hours later came up with new driver, new irons, new golf shoes, new hat and I was $1000 lighter But I love playing with them all. Except the money lol

And the wife went along with it all But that is because she spent $1000 in the next few stores.

If i get it in my head to buy something... I shop around everywhere for it. If by the 3rd or 4th trip looking and sampling and I still want it... then I have convinced myself it isnt an impulse buy and I really need and/or want it.

That's how I convince myself.

I know what your saying, i needed to reshaft my irons a month ago. That turned into getting new irons, then a new hybird, and wedges, and putter. Good thing I got it all on eBay for cheap and have some left over caddie money.

I'm obsessive. You start by looking for a new Heavy putter or a 3 ball and the next thing you know you are in love with the Napa and Scotty and you have 110 putters and a putting green in the basement. Can't pass by a golf store or a playit again without stopping to see what you "need". Good work my boy.

Yes, yes, oh my god yes. It all starts with, I think I need a new putter but $150 for a Heavy or a 3 ball seems too much. Next thing you know you wouldn't be caught dead with those because you fell in love with Scotty, Bettinardi, and the Napa. You've got 110 putters in your "collection". can't drive by a golf store or a play it again to see what you "need"?
But that's just me .
Right? Good work my boy.

LMAO!

You make a very good point, but then again I think about other things, like Saving up for a car, or clothes, etc.

You're 16, spend money on what you want, you aren't supposed to know any better.

4 years from now are you going to miss the $500-$1000 that you spent on something you enjoy doing? And where can you gamble at 16?

I am with you Dent. I'm 16 as well and there is a bunch of stuff I want too. I have a great set of clubs in my bag for a 16 year old, I'm very fortunate, but I'm always looking at new equipment, new shoes, new hats, etc. etc.

The problem is I don't have a job and have NO money. Zero. Zilch. Nada. So getting new stuff is impossible unless my Dad goes with me and buys it for me. Which he's pretty much bought everything I have over the past two years...but anyway, to the point, I always feel like getting new things...but if it's not broke don't fix it.

I also saw a great quote from Brandt Snedeker in the latest golf magazine. "In a key moment in a tournament or round, I always like looking down at an old friend. That's why I go by the 'don't fix it unless it's broke' method"

I thought that was great and I'm thinking I shouldn't really get any new clubs for a real long time unless it's broken or just not working for me. Right now, clubs are not my issue at all, so I won't be getting any new clubs for a while. New shoes? That's something that I will need soon.

Did you ask any of the golf stores to sell you one of those big display bags... you know... the ones that are like 3 feet in diameter and can hold 100's of clubs.

Same with me...no job, no money.

I'll probably get a job at my local golf course this summer if I can. Free greens fees, and free range balls. :D

I just graduated high school and got about $1000 from friends and relatives. Once I got this money I started spending it on golf stuff that I had been wanting but couldn't buy because of lack of money. I bought a new 3 wood, 3 new wedges, a new putter, a new bag, and I'm about to buy some black shoes, and a new hybrid. I really do think that there is a place for having the right equipment. I believe that if you have the correct tool, with enough practice, you can do anything you want, so the purchase of better equipment is very advantageous, and you shouldn't feel bad.
