I'd expect to just ask, but I'm not sure because a ton of people would ask to work there. So my guess is that you get a application and fill it out and they pick whoever they think is the best fit for the job. But for the people out there that work at golf courses. How did you get your job? Thanks.

my friend just talked to the golf pro. He doesn't actually get paid. He just gets to golf for free. And it is a nice course so it is worth it.

What does he do? That actually doesn't sound like a good deal. Plus I don't think getting to play for free would count as minimum wage

âI'm glad I brought this course, this monster, to its knees.â

I don't think it would be worth it to get a job at my course, all of the workers I see there (except the hot babes in the clubhouse) seem to be bums. They kicked a 15 year kid out of his job (picking up range balls) becuase they didin't want to pay anyone, so now it is some random volunteer who has no idea about golf.

How did you get your job? Thanks.

I sent my resume to all the local clubs I wanted to work for. Got a few callbacks, and ultimately ended up where I cam now. I wasn't in the PGA program at the time, but had a long history of playing and working at clubs as a kid.

Many times it's all about who you know.

I was lucky in that my mother re-married a member of the local country club years ago. I started out as a shoe shiner in the locker room, then went to work for the Superintendent the following year. I can't kiss a** so the pro shop aspect was out -- shining shoes for doctors and lawyers was bad enough, although as a 17-18 year old making $250 on weekends in tips in the mid-80's wasn't.

As said in earlier posts, it's not that hard to get a job at a golf course. No different than McDonalds or any other customer relation/service job - just go in and get an app. Doing it for the free golf is one perk, but there are many other benefits as well.

Knowing someone is the key to getting most jobs in the world. Helps alot none the less... though if you have been golfing at the course for a few years and made yourself become known to the workers there and liked by them, i'd say u have a good in.

My dad already worked at the course when I got my job. Plus I know the director of golf pretty well. Most of the people though just came in and applied. It helps if you play at the course so the people get to know you.

My golf course job is fantastic. I couldn't ask for more. I get free golf, free range balls, free carts, free drinks (soft drinks), 1/2 price food, and smokin' deals on equipment. Plus they pay me. The people I work with are great as are most of the people who play there.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Knowing someone is the key to getting most jobs in the world.

This is all too true. I see you are from Massachusetts...it is even more true there. I grew up in MA and it is very hard to work at a course in MA without connections...especially in the pro shop.

Ask someone at the pro shop when the head pro works, and then I would just show up at the course at that time with a resume. Afternoons are better since it is usually slower.

It's not all that hard as long as they have openings. As long as there are openings it's like getting a job just about anywhere else that pays what they pay you (which is usually minimum wage for most jobs on the course). I got my first job at a course because I was a member there for years and they knew me pretty well. I then got a job when I moved to Myrtle Beach because my college golf coach would find openings and then notify the guys on the team looking for jobs during the summer where the openings were. I didn't get a reference from the coach, so I just went to the course, filled out an application and worked the carts. Then after I graduated I moved to another course in Myrtle which I got because I was referred to by roommate who was working there at the time.

It kind of depends on what you want to do, but for the min. wage jobs it's not all that hard if there's openings. The big thing is to have a person who will show up on time and not leave early.
