Hello everyone.

I am looking at upgrading my wedges, and I was wondering if the Cleveland CG14 and CG12 wedges are worth the price difference over CG11 and Cleveland 588 wedges. It seems like the price difference is about 40 bucks or so, and I was just wondering if is was worth it for the newer wedges. I know the new ones have zip grooves, but are there other advantages? Thanks.

Im definetely not a fan of CG14s, I find them to be absolutely horendous looking. I like the looks of the CG12s, and they really really do spin. They are definetely a great buy for 100 bucks

The CG14's have an insert in them that many players don't like. I'm using Callway's X-Tour Vintage and they're really nice...especially my 52º. The 58º is a little rough on solid lies but it's prob. only rough because i'm not a great flop shot maker yet.

the CG14's are geared towards the higher marker whereas the 12's are for lower markers both have the same grooves and spin well but the 14's are a lot easier to hit, and as for people not liking the gel insert, you cant even see it at address so whats the fuss?

I've seen some of the Cleveland staffers playing the CG14 including Boo Weekly when he won earlier this year so they're not just for higher handicappers.

they work pretty well i reckon. i have 3 and bought em off ebay. and one of the shafts broke in a home mishap and when it was getting reshafted the pro said that it was 1 inch shorter. i'm 6 foot 1 inch tall and it certainly isn't that great to use them when you have to have quite a lot of knee flex(is it possible to lenghten shortened shafts? if so i want it done). but i'd say if you are pretty new to this game which i am really(playing for just over 15 months) then give these a shot. i think next set in a year or so would be vokeys as i just love the look of em and the spin

Why do players not like the insert on a CG14? Is it because it makes the club look like it is more a "game improvement" wedge, or maybe because the insert eats up the virbations on mishits giving you less feedback? Personally, I do not care about looks, I'm more concerned how it performs, and the reviews on this club seem to be pretty good.

If you're looking for a nice, decent priced Cleveland wedge, look at the CG10's. CG12's are nice too, but a little more $$.

You cant go wrong with the CG14's.... for that matter you really cant go wrong with any Cleveland Wedge. I would definately go with the Zip Grooves.

Also, Callaway wedges are now made by Roger Cleveland. I actually wish I would have looked at those first but they are all very capable of getting the job done well.

I agree. I got a CG14 54*. It feels and plays great! Also, while I'm fine with the gel insert, I didn't like the yellow color. So ... after 10 minutes with a black Sharpie it is one cool looking wedge (especially with the BlackPearl finish) !!! (I have played at least 10 rounds with this wedge, the black color does not come off!)

First I just want to say that Cleveland makes very good wedges and I'm sure the cg14's are good as well, although I've only hit the cg12's. I would say they are worth the money as long as you like the look and feel of the club. For me, the look of the club is important. I will admit that I've never considered the cg14's just because of the insert. I think it looks awful and I can't understand why someone needs feedback to be dampened on a wedge. I like all the feel I can get from a wedge and I don't want to have to look at a cheap looking gimmicky insert every time i get inside of 130 yards. But if you like it, then that's all that matters.

    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
