I would say I am a decent golfer..nothing great but can hold my own. Generally around mid to low 80's. But for the life of me i cannot hit a 3 wood to save my life!

I have bought every "easiest to hit club" in the world. Adams Insight, FT-i squareway, Taylormade r5 fw, and all of my shots look exactly the same. extremely low (near worm burner) that has a wicked duck hooking tail! I mean it is awful!

I do guard against a hook off the tee with my driver (my achilles heel). My irons are straight mostly, slight draw. Hybrids (adams a3) straight most of the time too.

But no matter where i seem to hit it from, tee, rough or fairway the 3 wood is always the same. Ball placement is generally back a bit farther in my stance than normal, but still left of center (no Vega jokes)...

When i tee it up i keep it 1/2 ball over the top of the head like a driver.

How can i get this thing to work???

Thanks

t

Try teeing it a little lower. I usually tee a 3 wood about 1/4 or less above it.

Tiger Woods puts his 3 wood actually right of center in his stance and takes a small divot. Try that.

I was afraid that the farther back i put it in my stance would equate to me subconciously snapping my wrist over exacerbating the problem...?

this might be agaist convention or even sanity, but i pick my 3-wood nearly strait up halfway through my backswing. I used to have a problem with that club as well and my pro developed the move for be because he thinks me doing this stops me from taking the club too far inside, which would cause me to either swing the club into the ground behind the ball, or swing up in a futile effort to get the ball in the air. From the top i just drop my hands strait down, making sure to keep my wrist cock as long as I can. It has worked well for me from the turf and the tee. My bad shots with that movement tend to be pushes, and not the worm burners i used to hit with that club a year and a half ago.

I also tend to worm-burn-hook my 3 wood, and I fix that by doing the most logically thing that comes to my mind. Don't turn your hands over too much(causing my hook), and have an even balanced swing with a good finish. I also try and push my hands out to the right and instead of turning them over, leave them out there. Hope this helps.

I find hitting down on the ball helps, If you have a steeper swing, you get behind the ball and take a tad divot with it. When I use it, it almost feels like when I make contact with the ball, the club stops dead, makes contact, and then just whips right out and the ball goes soaring.

I used to have this problem with my woods. I was trying to "scoop" the ball off the ground and I wasn't transferring my weight to my left side (as a righty) properly. Try really getting to your left side and taking a little bit of a divot as Dent suggested.

Excellent advice....I took it to the course today and was killing the 3 wood with little effort. The concept of picking the wood nearly straight up halfway through my backswing not only was easy to conceptualize, but also got me hitting my driver and hybrids straighter and farther.

Thanks a ton.
