It's right about 80°, hardly a cloud in the sky, tee time is 3:30 (so I have to leave around 2:30), and it's Friday. I can barely concentrate.....

Funny story - a colleague is working out of my office today (normally he's not), and we've often talked about playing this course that is on both of our ways home one day. He IM's me yesterday, and we scheduled it. I decided not to actually request time off; instead, I just came in real early. I had a 9am conference call with my boss (she works elsewhere, yay!), and she starts off with, "so, how's the weather there?" I - already mentally on the course - blurt out, "it's PERFECT!" To which she follows, "really? And you're not bucking to play golf??" "Aaaactualllllyyyyyyy......"

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

Leaving work early to play golf is almost as nice as playing. When I leave early to play golf, it is usually with the boss. It is so nice to play and have the boss pay for it. I'll take my perks were I can get them.

Used to work a job, we were 6 am to 230 ish. Well every friday we would "take lunch" at 9am and go golfing. Just not come back to work at all. Worked pretty good (11 weeks in a row) until we got busted by the boss as he asked to play thru.

Boss: "Can we play...hey you guys, aren't you supposed to be at work?"

Us: "Morale boosting exercise "

Boss: "Where is everyone else?"

Us: "They didn't want to come, by the way, uh I thought you had meetings today? That's why you wouldn't be around."

Boss: "Don't let me see you on this golf course on a Fri aft again."

We stopped playing on base after that.

ETA: To answer the question - nooners but that isn't golf related. Golfing wise I would gladly stay at work all day to get a birdie. If I didn't have to drive and could simply putt, I'd be golden.

Just went on the range today, but was the only one there. It was so nice, able to fully concentrate, about 85 degrees and sunny but good visability.

I can relate to that, my boss is a member at a very nice CC with only 300 members, so he pays and usually there is no waiting at all.

About 2 weeks ago, my boss told me not to come in to work tomorrow. "At first I was thinking, oh man what did I do?" Then he said, "We are hosting a charity golf tournament and I want you to play with us." I was so happy to be able to play golf and not go into work. The next day, we went to the nicest golf course in town very early. After going over the course rules, we started to play. On one of the par 3s, they were giving away a new Subaru for making a hole in one. I was so excited, I over hit the green. I had the best time playing golf when I should have been at work. Although we did not win the tournament, we had a blast.

We sneak out at least once if not twice a week for 18. It is kind of like a game of russian roulette as it seems the boss is always blowing up one of our phones whenever we play.

hahah even when I'm in class, when the teacher is talking, I'll draw hole diagrams on looseleaf and plan how i will shoot each shot

    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
    • Right. The difference between being 120 out and 70 out for me (this is the important part) is negligible and not worth putting other risks into play off the tee.   Ok the argument against driver is that my shot cone is comically large. It puts every possible outcome into play. You can't see the green from the tee so there's a good chance I'd have to wait for it to clear which would slow down play. That's the third tee right in the middle of the firing range there. I really don't want to wait just to hit a terrible shot and I especially don't want to injure somebody. Yea I have no problem playing out of the rough short of the bunker if I'm just going to lay up short of the bunker, but I absolutely need to avoid flaring it right into the penalty area if I'm going to be laying up in the first place. As a general strategy I understand where you're coming from. But since we're specifically talking about me (this is a shot I'm going to have to hit on Saturday), I think the cost is fairly marginal. I hit the ball 8' closer on average from 50-100 than I do from 100-150 from the fairway and rough and the green success % difference is 4%. Bunker might as well be a penalty drop. Based on the data,  Here's my SG:A data compared to a 10: I honestly don't know how to use SG for decision making. That's why I was mostly looking at proximity to hole and green success rate for comparison. I mostly use SG as a way to track my progress. All good. Like I said, I appreciate the discussion. It makes me think. If I didn't want to see alternative/opposing viewpoints to my own I just wouldn't post anything. You should post it! In your own swing thread, of course. It's been a fun exercise.
    • Played my first 2024 round at Pierce Lake. Boomed my first drive down #10 fairway, then slowly slipped into mediocrity. 83 (69.6/131). The high point was going 2 of 4 on sand saves. My sand game is pretty marginal but today I must have discovered the secret for a couple hours.
    • day 34. Technique practice. Became too quick and outcome oriented. need to slow down and work on technique again.
    • Day 534, April 18, 2024 Practice before lessons today. Priority piece. No sim this time. 🙂
