Hi all,

Thought I'd vent some frustration here. Thought I'd go down the range earlier today for a bit of practice as its a pretty nice day. I leave my clubs there normally now; its more convenient as I can walk down when I need to. THey are kept in a locked shed with a code that should be know only by members of the club.

Went down today to find the shed locked as normal, though everything was okay until I found my club bag lying on the floor with all the pockets open. A brand new sleeve of Nikes had been taken, along with a bag of tees. They obviously knew what they were looking for, as one of my pockets contains a random assortment of balls, from which they took only the Pro V1s. They also seem to have taken my membership tag, but they have left anything of real value.

While this doesnt add up to being worth very much, I am shocked that someone has the indecency to take such small things, especially as they must have been helped by a member at some point. Now for all I know they are playing without having paid the green fee using my balls and tees. It looks like mine was not the only bag tampered with either. THere were clubs strewn about on the benches.

This has very much put me off leaving my clubs there, which is a real shame considering how convenient it used to be. It certainly soured my practice session as well.

Anyone else had anything stolen? Personally, If they have a shed for clubs, it should be way more secure than it is at the moment.

Cheers,
Jimmy

I would guess the person is either a member, or watched a member punch in the code to get in. To be honest, if you were going to risk being caught in there (not being a member), why would you go looking for certain things and not just grab the first bag that looked of some sort of value? I am leaning more towards it was a member who had the right to be in there and that no one would question them.

Seems like they needed new balls to re-sell. Clubs are too hard to ship and would really bring out an investigation. They probably figure that not too much would be made of missing balls. Kids of members?

Sorry to here that. tell the manager-they may be able to comp you. Reconsider leaving your clubs there. Imagine if your expensive iron set or driver was stolen.

In nyc theft is the norm. My clubs don't leave my sight. if someone tries to grabem then i'll be the top story on the news.

A few years back at Bethpage a few sets of clubs were stolen and the Nasau police borrowed a new set from the pro shop to use as bait and the thief got them too! They eventually caught him and found over 50 sets of clubs in his basement.

If you get the right insurance, you can have a new set every year. Someone takes them and you get a check for the new latest equipment. However, in my experience, it is very unusual for a club to compensate you- they may offer advice and condolences but thats it. Its ususally the juniors who go for the pro v1s in my bag in the locker room.

And you wonder why you have a negative reputation. Now you're advising insurance fraud? Your act is wearing very, very thin.

I had a similar case some months ago, I left my bag were EVERYONE leaves it before entering he practice range. When I took a pair of balls out for putting, I realized I had about 4 balls missing. They left all he cheap nike's, but took the NXT tours and a couple of pink balls which belonged to my gf, which I found quite peculiar since they weren't anything special, just Wilson's slopes. Its stupid, they took about $10 bucks in balls which is nothing, but they surely made the rest of my day miserable. I can't believe someone can something like that, its just ridiculous...

After dealing with the public and theft in my previous job, theft is a crime of opportunity. We need to be responsible with what we own or we are just inviting someone to take our possessions. Just because it is what other people do, doesn't mean it will be safe. I know our golf course has you sign a waiver before allowing you to store your clubs or golf cart in any of their facilities. They know something could happen and don't want to be liable. My clubs don't leave my site unless there is absolutely no way to watch them when I enter the club house.

This is the same thing that happens at health clubs and gyms. They open your locker, search your stuff.. they copy your credit cards and put it back.. nothing will seem wrong, until they sneak in about $1k in cc charges over the next month. Usually to buy prepaid phone cards, etc which they then ebay.
