Last week I had some family come to visit and we played a LOT of golf. Last Wednesday I played 2 rounds, Last Thursday I played 2 rounds, last Friday, Sunday and Monday I played 1 round each day. Then on Tuesday, I wend to demo some new irons and hit quite a few balls.

This wednesday I noticed a bit of a dull ache in my right shoulder. It is not really hurting badly, but I feel some minor discomfort. Any ideas on what it could be? I am used to playing on Sat, Sun and sometime a couple rounds during the week.

Could be simple tendinitis, could be something else. Make sure you take an anti-inflammatory and ice it for a couple of days. Shouldn't mean you can't still golf though.

My doctor recommended for my tendinitis to load up on the ibuprofen BEFORE playing, much easier to prevent the inflamation than treating it, I guess. Make sure you are properly hydrating yourself when playing, this really exacerbates my tendinitis.

You could have fatigue in the shoulder. This happens with all types of muscle. How much stretching do you do before playing a round of golf?

FWIW, to try and loosen the shoulder, grab a bat or any type of stick, drop it over the back of the shoulder. With the opposite hand, lift the bat/stick by the end/barrel. You should feel a stretching sensation in the shoulder. Do it until you feel comfortable/loose.

Thanks for all the replies. I will load up on Motrin before I play tomorrow.

I stretch like crazy before a round, my brother makes fun of me, says that I act like I'm fixing to run the Boston Marathon or something!

I didn't stretch very well before I demoed the irons the other day, though. That may be the cause...

Take it from a guy who has had lots of injuries. Stretch well. Also, you might try the natural joint supplement Glucosamin/Chondroitin. Great stuff for golfers if you stick with it.

As for the shoulder, if its not painful, or restricitng you are probably fine. Otherwise, get it checked out just in case. Rotator cuff is a popular injury with golfers, and it can be painful and limiting.
