Re: Calling out cigar smokers...

morning golf: something nice and creamy...light... so I'll stay with like a RYJ - Aniversario, or go as far as a Punch Punch Punch (yes it's cuban...but not too bitter...just right)

afternoon golf: you definitely can't go wrong with the ltd series line from H. Upman and my favorite for a 1PM tee time: Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure 2 (castro didn't smoke these for nothing)

late afternoon: I like to finish the round with something still light on the palate... so I'll finish with a CAO vision (not the greatest CAO & a bit overrated for the price...but it's still a good smoke). Another great afternoon finish would be something from the Partagas special edition line....great great great draw, texture and body....

dinner after golf...then of course with your glass of Blue label, balvanie 18 or even going as low as a Glenn Feiddich 15...I like to enjoy something more full.. but still not overpowering....so my favorite to end a great day of golf and dinner would be a Montecristo #2 (gotta love the torpedo)

Cigar smokers out there?

I am new to golf but a long time enjoyer of the leaf. I was just wondering how many other golfers out there may also partake from the humidor every now and then- or, if like me, frequently....

Re: Cigar smokers out there?

I love to smoke a Partaga or Ghurka Dragon while playing. Have some authentic Cubans for special occasions and enjoy them with a single malt scotch.

Re: Cigar smokers out there?

I just picked up some Montecristo #2, & some Thomas Hinds Honduran Short Churchills & Robustos. I like the larger ring size (48-52) & the shorter lengths (5"-6"). I have a cigar clip that clips to your bag, or the power cart (side of the cart window works well).

Re: Cigar smokers out there?

I don't like to smoke when I play but my favorite is a maduro double chateau fuente with a tall cold pint of Sam Adams after a nice 12 oz. ribeye.

Re: Cigar smokers out there?

I can't smoke a cigar when i play, i just like relaxing while smoking one. When i do I bought a box of CAO visions from last year, only 100k made and i love them, so on the special occasions i do have one, its those.

Re: Cigar smokers out there?

I like to enjoy a La Gloria Cubana Serie R #4(Natural or Maduro) on the course every now and then.

Re: Cigar smokers out there?

I'll occasionally take out a romeo and juliet with me not a huge cigar smoker but I do like lower range cigars once in awhile

Re: Cigar smokers out there?

I like the 48 to 54 ring gauges.... and depending on how long I intend on smokeing, either a robusto (5" or so) or a churchill (7"). There are several cheap brands I smoke everyday "sandwich" style, but the more premium brands I enjoy when I like to treat myself include the la gloria cubana, padron, onyx and partagas black.

Cigars .... well, they go with just so many things so well..... I'm glad the new hobby I chose in golf accomidates it nicely.

Re: Cigar smokers out there?

I like these inexpensive cigars called "Spirit of Cuba" by Alec Bradley.

They're about $1.50 each when you buy them by the box.
I bought some sort of by accident for a friends wedding and noticed that I didn't have that nasty smokers mouth the next day. They've been one of my favorites ever since.

Enjoy!

There is another one out there that I haven't been able to find since, but it was called a honey Jubilee. The guy sold me the rest he had and said he didn't know where to get them any more. They tasted like smoked honey.. yum yum!

Re: Cigar smokers out there?

on the course, what do you all use to prop up your cigars? i've seen those clips, but are there alternatives? do you just put them on the ground?

Re: Cigar smokers out there?

I enjoy a cigar when I'm out...

I usually like to keep Sancho Panza's on hand - a phenomenal inexpensive cigar! - and CAO Cameroon Toros. I will also try a few other "standard" brands, but these two are my regular smokes. I prefer a 6 x 50 size.

Recently picked up some Montecristo double coronas and some Placensia Reserve Organicas as well.... Nothing like a good cigar and a Guinness or Port.... BTW - can't stand cigarettes - go figure.

I usually just throw mine on the ground, or if im riding put it on the cart. I smoked a couple of Oliva V's on the course today. A nice smoke, but I dont know if it was a good golfing smoke.

Join the club. I am the same way. I love cigars but cigarettes kill me. In fact, if I try to puff on one just once I nearly barf up a lung.

Re: Cigar smokers out there?

I don't smoke them anymore - I have a son now so I have given them up but back in the day, nothing better than a good Thomas Hines Vintage I to even out the day.
