111 at Hilldale Golf Club . 55/56. 39 putts. 69.4/130 from the white tees.

This is the first time I have played a full 18 this season and I am happy to have played consistently...not well...but consistently. I chunked too many shots and put up an 8 and 9 on the front and started off the back with a 10, but I also only had 5 three putts, which I was proud of considering how fast and huge the greens are there.

The course itself is very scenic and it is a thoughtful layout that requires consideration and the ability to trust the yardage markers. Too often I found myself a club or more short because the open fairways do not have many visual landmarks to help you gauge distance yourself. Hilldale is immaculately maintained and despite the pushy rangers and clubhouse people, it was a lot of fun.

Sorry for the low res pics...camera phone.

This was my par putt on the 14th. I went on to 3 putt.

This is the 17th's well protected green. I hit the best 5 iron of my life on this hole, pin high about 15 feet away.

I lost 7 ProV1s.

Putting a ProV1 is about as good as sex.

First off, congrats on a fun round! Glad to hear someone having an exciting round and taking the time to share all about it with the board. I know when I am in the mood to share I must have had a great round so I am sure you did too.

But now that I've said that, seriously, losing 7 Pro-V1s? There must be some ego involved in putting them in play with your handicap... I am a high handicap too... And I have never bought a dozen balls that cost more than $20. I would feel physically ill buying a box of Pro-V1s and then putting 3/4 in the drink or OB during one single round. You might as well just open your wallet and shake it over the water hazard. Put the ego in check and buy some Noodles or Top-Flite D2 Feels. That way when you put one in the water it's $1 at most instead of $4-5!

I bought a dozen used Titleists at Play It Again Sports for $6. It included 7 ProV1s. Some of them were already chewed up pretty bad, but compared to the refurbed/recycled ones I saw at Target for $27/one dozen, I didn't mind losing them...particularly because I bought them with birthday gift money. I just wanted to finally give them a shot.

Good for you! I just howled when I noticed your handicap in your signature! That was PRICELESS!!! Infinity ... LOL!!!

And do you know, there are some pretty simple ways to knock a good handfull of strokes off that 111? You're probably closer to breaking 100 than you think!

Most notably would be getting back a bunch of shots you lose around the green. If you have time, work on chipping with a goal of getting inside 10'. Secondly, work on 3, 4, 5 and 10' putts. If you look back, you probably missed five or six (or more) during your 111 round.

When you miss a green you still may have chance to save par. At the same time, it's just as easy to leave the green with a seven. Practice time around and on the putting green is a way to get MORE 4s and 5s and make the 7s much more infrequent or even a thing of the past.

Practice, practice, PRACTICE!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

The majority of my lost shots (particularly yesterday) just come on brain farts. Chunking, pulling up my head etc. I am pretty strong from 100 yards in and around the greens I can usually put it within 15 feet if I have an opportunity to bump and run. I lagged real well yesterday too, but I sure did blow some short putts that I should have made (hence the 5 3 putts).

I have made a concerted effort to improve my thinking and decision making on the course this season and, for the most part, I kept to that, except for the 10th where I had a Van de Velde moment, putting 3 balls in the water just out of spite.

First off, congrats on a fun round!

I bought three dozen Dunlops at WalMart for $15. You might wanna consider picking up some of those and taking the advice of this guy

This way, we dont burn 5 minutes looking for a ball. I'll look for a couple, then take a drop. At $.44 a ball, most people would.

Speaking of good cheap balls. I got a dozen RAM soft balls on sale for $8.

These are the best balls I have EVER seen. Everytime I sliced my drive into the woods... they ALWAYS bounced out.. ALWAYS. If that isn't a great ball I dont know what is.

Speaking of Pro vi. The last round I played I found 2 of them on the course. One in the rough about 5 feet from the green someone just didnt see I guess. And one on the 9th hole in a large bunker... I guess it wasnt worth the $5 for the guy to go down and pick it up???

I also dont use expensive balls... I get happy when I find them, but I am not yet good enough to really notice a difference yet, so I dont buy them.

Nice round, and like was said earlier I bet you are a lot closer to 100 then you realize. I started out golfing with an older guy from work. He couldnt hit the ball far, but he ALWAYS at least moved the ball a hundred or so yards down the fairway, where as I frequently was hitting them fat 10 yards. Once I eliminated those, and cut down on the 3 putts getting at least CLOSE to 100 was easy.
