Your Dream Foursome

Thread Starter

Some friends were hashing out the old debate of who would make up their dream foursome for one fantasy round at Pebble Beach.

I listened to the usual (and expected) choices, Jack, Arnie, Tiger... one guy threw in a twist when he said he'd make his round interesting by choosing Michelle Wei and maybe another gal. Hmmm...

Well, because I think golf should be fun and I'd rather have a laugh or two than a day of embarrassment and frightening tension I'll share the three guys I think would be the most memorable day on the course for me:

David Faherty, Gary McCord, Peter Jacobson ... Let it Fly!

Re: Dream Round, perfect foursome

Great question, but a tough one. There's a lot of players I would choose but I'll go with these right now... Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods, and Kenny Perry.

Re: Dream Round, perfect foursome

A Dream Foursome would be so hard to select!

I think I would like to have Tiger, Toms, and Dimarco. I would just need to get over the fact, that they're the BEST PLAYERS IN THE WORLD! I cant even play my game well, when I'm paired up with strangers on my local course! ( i have no mental game...)

~although I would love to play with Jack, not only because of his amazing legacy, but he seems so personable and down-to-earth. He seems like one that would actually not MIND playing with a 25 handicapper! (which would blow up to a 100 handicap with him watching!)

Re: Dream Round, perfect foursome

I'll restrict my answer to players who are currently alive.

Current
Me, and I'm assuming that's a given...

Tiger Woods just so that I could learn something and everything. I wouldn't even care if the guy was amicable - I'd just watch and learn. I'd have to remember to pack a rubber band to put under my jaw to prevent it from falling to the floor, I imagine.

Laura Diaz has been one of my favorite LPGA players for a long time. Of course, I'm assuming she's back in playing condition after having her baby. Otherwise, Paula Creamer is the fill-in. These gals hit the ball about the same distance(s) I do, maybe a tad shorter, so I may actually be able to learn more from them than someone so far out of my league as Tiger Woods.

Ernie Els to make sure Tiger didn't get complacent and play sloppy. I'd need someone to drive him. Plus, staring at Ernie Els' smooth tempo all day couldn't be too bad, and by all accounts he's genuinely nice. I reserve the right to change this one later...

Past
Still Me of course...

Ben Hogan again for the tactical way in which he approached golf and his mastery of the swing. The 1953-era Ben Hogan, that is.

Arnold Palmer, a pretty down-to-earth guy from my neck of the woods, and altogether far less of an ass than Nicklaus was or is.

Harry Vardon, just because it'd be interesting to get a peek that far back and to see if Hogan or Vardon talked more in the match. My money is on Vardon talking more. Perhaps I could just make fun of New Jersey.

Re: Dream Round, perfect foursome

The more I think about the players I admire, the longer the list grows. There are so many interesting players with games to admire, personalities to enjoy and stories to tell. Toms, Funk, DiMarco, Els, Fuzzy, Zinger, Davis, Duval,Jason Gore for sure. Maybe the topic should be a dream week, month or summer instead of one round.

As to Tiger. He comes off as likeable in interviews or press conferences. I feel that in person, in his own element he is warmer and more enjoyable to be around than we would imagine. In spite of all his talent and success he seems to have a humble side that would put anyone at ease.

Woods, Duval, VJ The last 3 #1 players in the world.

Re: Dream Round, perfect foursome

Well personally I'd love to have Daly as my first pick. He is the real peoples person. I've followed john a few times at the memorial and he is a real hoot. He seems to cut up quite a bit in his practice rounds.

Number 2 pick would be Wie. I think she is the one female right now that can change alot of things in golf. She just missed the cut in japan by one but she should have been there. A little pressure still weighing heavy but I think she'll make a cut on the pga soon. I'd love to say I played with one of the up and coming golf phenoms in all of golf.

number three is a toss up. I'd love to play with craig stradler. I think he would make for an interesting round. Phil would have to be right there too though. Maybe he could teach me to miss those important 3 footers. lol One other that I'd hate to leave out is Norman. One of games greats that doesn't get alot of recognition anymore.

These would be my picks aside from the obvious tiger, jack, arnie.

Re: Dream Round, perfect foursome

Michelle Wie...ok, eventually threesome if Tiger's wife is playing... ok, ok - get her twin sister in there too. This is a DREAM foursome for me

Re: Dream Round, perfect foursome

This answer would depend on whether or not you were playing for money.
If not then,
Mickelson, Woods, and Singh. My dream is to play with the best no matter who they are.
If money is involved then,
Any three hackers with large wallets and larger egos. I want to hear "I don't need any strokes, I will play you straight up." Ahh, music to my ears!

Re: Dream Round, perfect foursome

Charles Howell III, Tiger Woods, and Jack Nicklaus

That is a little bit different I would say. I think Jack is the best of all-time. I think Tiger will be the best of all-time when he is finished. And CH3 is my favorite golfer and an Oklahoma State boy. I have to have an Oklahoma State guy in the mix.

CH3 and myself would scramble against Tiger and the old man. Not pretty.

"...hackers with large wallets and larger egos."

A new member at our club is from Southern Cal. He was kidding a playing partner last week because the guy got upset over losing 8 bucks.

The new guy from California said, "Geez, you have a home on the water, a going business, four cars, $150,000 motor home and you gripe about 8 bucks? In southern Calif. guys who are dead broke will bet you a hundred just to make you think they have it!"

Re: Dream Round, perfect foursome

Me - Of course
Tiger - Duh
Davis Love III - Always been one of my favorite golfers.
David Toms - Maybe he would bring his wife?

If Toms couldn't bring his wife, then I'd stick Arnie or Freddie in there.

Wearing her Sports Illustrated outfit, I presume?

Another vote for "giggle" golf

Got to go with Baynative on this one.

For me, I would love to play with:

Trevino -- A character's character
Fuzzy -- I'm from Louisville and he's from New Albany, just across the river.
Jacobson, Feherty, or McCord -- Tough to pick from this trio.

When the round is over, take him out for some fried chicken, watermelon, and collard greens.

I liked Fuzzy up until that moment. I do honestly believe he was trying to make a joke, but I also think he should have known better than to make that joke at that moment.

Of course, if Bernhard Langer had been winning and the comment was about Schnitzel and beer or Shigiecki was winning and he had said something about Suishi not a single word would have been mentioned. NOT ONE!

Racism has become big business.

Exactly, which is why I think he was joking but should have known better.

P.S. Picking on an Asian player would still technically be racism.
