INDEED, indeed. Methinks at least TWO gods:

The first, a god of line, symmetry, and order. A god of planes and arcs where the laws of speed, trajectory, and spin are constant, and obeyed.

Then of course, the TWIN god, who was born second. Not unlike the coyote trickster, this god is a god of deception, wind, and unreadable slopes. A god of cruel tricks and bad bounces, who's favorite pastime is opening the earth to take all golfballs down to places where they will never see the light of day again.

I say no because it is more around it being luck than a godish figure. Everyone has always said that they would rather be lucky than good, but I think that I would rather be good at golf with luck showing up every now and again.

Sam Goldwyn said "The harder I work, the luckier I get."

My belief in the "Golf Gods" is that when I work on my game, I will see improvements. When I don't work on my game, my skills will "soften" and my luck on the course will get worse.

This must mean there's a golf devil to, so when your not doing well and you dig yourself into a rut, you get slaughtered on the course.

Yes.
One day I said something about this game starting to seem easy.
The next day I landed in 3 divots and got 0 good bounces, all terrible ones into the rough and all.

I've never thought of it that way. I've always thought that "the Golf Gods must be Angry" when I am not doing so well. I've even gone as far as to offer up sacrifices to the Golf Gods in an effort to appease them and see some immediate improvement. What can I say, I must be crazy.

The Gods of golf, yes of course they are around us ,they are the ones that when we are good help us along and when we are bad let us have it ,big time.
The following are examples of good behaviour when the Gods will smile on us,allow us to get Pars ,make 30ft putts and keep us out of the hazards.

Counting EVERY shot
Playing the ball as it lies
Not talking when your playing partners are teeing off
Not walking across another players line on the green
Help your opponent search for his ball
Get the first round in at the bar.
Take the wife home a presant now and again

The golf Gods will not be happy if you dont play the game as intended and will make you suffer in the future by giving you a dose of the shanks, the jitters, slices and hooks will become common and you will turn into a wreck ,your scorecard will look more like a bingo card .
The worst sin that the Gods disaprove of is Bragging either on the course ,in the clubhouse or on golf forums, the punnishment for this is all the above plus you will lose a ball every hole, your clubs will fall apart, your wife will leave you and your dog will get fleas

Thats my experiance of the Golf gods anyway, enjoy jour game!

That is the funniest thing I have read in a long time. Your POOR DOG!

You forgot one of the most controversial: walking the course (aka playing as the game was intended to be played). I typically ride (I know, shame on me), but when I hit a shank, I sacrifice the cart and walk to make ammends, which usually works.

Of course I believe. A word of advice... Never say to yourself after hitting a great drive on a par 5 that you might escape with less than an 8 (personal average). A series of duffs, hooks, slices, bad bounces, lip-outs etc. will ensue and you'll end up with nothing less than an 8. The Gods were paying me back for my overconfidence. Never doubt their powers.

    • You all are right, its not that big of an issue, I'll leave it alone, especially after looking at that picture of Tigers beat up putter. But I also noticed the small circle worn on the sweet-spot where he hits it every time, I definitely don't have one of those. Thanks for the replies
    • Committing to one brand of ball this year - Snell MTB Prime X, the 5 doz. pack. Like how they perform for me. At $18/doz., can live with cover scuffing. Iron regripping with GolfPrice MCC+4 Teams std. in red/navy. May be retiring Odyssey Dual Force after 30 yrs. Seems like I can't get it to the hole anymore. Kind of light and has lots of toe hang. My reg. group's hounding finally wore me down.    From Callaway preowned - trying out the Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K in double wide (less toe hang) and triple wide (face balanced). Both also noticeably heavier...we shall see.
    • WOW, it looks like he has been hitting stones with that putter to put all of those nicks into it.  I can't see how a ball would cause many those dings.
    • I'm fighting a knee as well as a foot so I "Feel your pain".  Luckily for me the PT is helping at this time and I am hoping knee surgery is not imminent.  Best of luck to you.
    • I would guess putting grooves in it might make it non-conforming. I am not sure how stringent the USGA is on restoring golf clubs.
