I've started looking at my swing on video and using some swing analysis. I have a couple of questions.

What should be the shaft angle of an 8 iron at address. Mine is about 58 degrees which looks way too steep. I know with a driver it's supposed to be 45 degrees but is there a "standard" angle of your shaft for a good address position with different clubs?

Check online for proper lie angles, but I think a standard 8 iron is about 63 degrees or so. I am currently comparing my impact and address angles. I think you ideally want them to match but I am currently a couple degrees flatter at address...most likely cause I slightly steepen my spine angle on the way down.
Note: I think your camera position can affect the angle you measure, so make sure your camera is in the same spot each time. In general your camera is going to be above the shaft which may cause your measurement to be off from actual lie angle.

The most practical way to put it is.... at address, proper shaft angle for an 8iron will occur naturally if you are at a proper setup.

With the sole of the club sitting flat on the ground, with the ball in the middle of your stance, and with the hands pressed to the inside of the left thigh, the shaft will sit naturally at the proper angle. The hands at the inside of your thigh and the ball in the middle of the stance puts your arms and club shaft at the 'lower case Y' that people are looking for.

If I understand your question, 58 degrees sounds pretty flat for an 8 iron. However, there are several variables involved in this, so I don’t know if anything could be called standard.

You might want to post the same question in the Golf Equipment Forum. Maybe a clubmaker can give you a good answer.

I've started looking at my swing on video and using some swing analysis. I have a couple of questions.

The numbers aren't too important. How the shaft angle relates to your posture/spine angle is important. Look at the pros below (they are each shown with both irons and woods), and make note that the pros backs and the club shaft(s) form right angles (or close to it). That is a relationship that would be beneficial for you to check in your own videos. The right angle relationship means that you are in a scientifically good position to take the club back on a stable plane, and that in turn would increase the chances of a good downswing plane.
