I was playing the other day with a dude that told me after each season I have to get my loft & lie adjusted since i'm using a forged club. He also said I shouldn't be using a wire brush to clean dirty from the club since it's a softer club than casted clubs.

I can understand why someone would have to get the loft and lie adjusted b/c the club's characteristics would change from hitting the ground, etc.
But every year?

So for everyone out there that has forged clubs, how long have you gone before getting your loft and lie tested/adjusted? I'm coming upon 12 months in a few weeks with my clubs. They're JACKED up from all the hidden rocks under the balls & will probably be sending them to the ironfactory for rechroming at the end of the season...should I bother to pay the extra $ to have everything checked & adjusted?

Yes, you should have your lies checked especially if your practice range consists of mats and not grass. (This was one of the first pieces of advice my fitter gave me)

As for cleaning the clubs, just use a damp cloth with some WD-40 sprayed on. They give the club a nice shine and clean out all the muck.

I use water, toothpicks to clean the grooves and windex for the irons and the grips.

I have forged irons but have not bothered to have the clubs checked like the pros do so often.

So I can't use my little wire brush on my mp57's?

On Mizuno's site they say not to use a wire brush but a soft bristled one. It can scratch the forged head and promote rusting.

Ive heard forged clubs bend easily, especially on mats...I have used mine for several years and never had them checked though. I want to after I get some money for it.
But I would think the lie angle should self-correct to your ideal lie angle, e.g. a flat club will hit the mat toe first ( http://www.dy-no.com/images/lie_angle_illustration.jpg ) and then bend more upright. But the impact may increase the loft on your irons...Anyone know if this is true?

Use a soft bristled brush (usually the black side of a 2 sided brush) and use very light pressure. I was taught to do that 9 years ago on my ping i3's. takes a little patience but it works very well and keeps your clubs in great shape.

Remember, the more often you clean, the less pressure you have to use......and the better you'll play sometimes.

I don't boubt it says this, but the little black golf brushes everyone has are made of brass. The chrome and steel your irons are made of is much harder than those little bristles. I use the brass on mine and always have, never had a problem. Taking a divot will abrade the face more than 100 scrubbings with the brass brush. Just my .02 cents.

i use a soft bristled brush. this particualr bursh has wired side, and a soft bristled. i never use the wired for my mizuno mp57's. but i have noticed that the paint on the mizuno logo, near where what iron it is ex. "7" THEN BELOW THE MIZUNO LOGO, well, i must have brushed it too hard and the paint came up only on the 7 irons, lol...so i have to watch that now.

Dish scrubber - plastic bristled with a handle on it - $1 at the dollar store. Attach to your bag with some twine, add a wet towel and your good to go between every shot. And soapy water after the round and your all set.

I've heard of people using WD-40 on their clubs during cleaning. just like the scotty cameron oil cloth thing.

is it just for the shine or does it have a proven like chemical bond to the metal? my 4-iron's pretty much rusting out at the sole b/c i had to have it grinded out last year after a hidden rock under the ball gouged out the entire sole. btw you around next Saturday? we can get a tee time going in the upstate area. maybe wallkill or something in the late AM.

I just had my clubs check at the beginning of the midwest golf season and my lie was 3-4 degrees flatter. Typically, I'm 1 degree flat. During the winter I'm forced to practice on mats. My club fitter said after one heavy session on mats, your clubs can bend a degree.

don't use wd40, on anything golf related

it has ingredients that actually adhere chemicals (that are often destructive to clubs, such as fertilizers and what not) to the clubface overtime could affect the grooves but in terms of the club (esp if chrome) it would be fine
