This is a spin off from the original post of "trapping the ball".

I am able to trap the ball by using a present forward press of the hands, having the ball back and delofting the iron.

The combination of the above seems to add about 2 club lengths to my original method (picking off of the ground, without a divot).

This seems to work for all conventional shaped irons. I have not tried 'delofting' with hybrids or fairway woods.

Is this how most of you who hit clubs long do so?

By having the ball back? No.

Really trapping the ball is due to the hands simply being forward at impact. It's almost "cheating" to put it back in your stance.
