I have 6 tee-times booked Aug 2nd at Whispering Willows GC in Livonia http://www.golflivonia.com/main.php?...=t01&tpage;=mai . Format will be a flighted (A & B only) skins / greenies game and an individual horserace. This event will require a mandatory minimum of $10 to be "pledged" on the horserace (however I would hope this number will be much higher).......an optional $20 skin / greenie pot will also be collected (I'm sure everybody will get in this). The skins and greenies are self explanatory, the horserace is explained below.

All "pledging" money will be collected prior to golf on the 2nd. Again, there will be a mandatory minimum of $10 for the horserace and an optional (semi-mandatory) $20 for skins and greenies. "Pledging" will begin 1 1/2 hrs before the first tee time and will continue until the first guy swings his club. There will be lots of unfamiliar faces to most, therefore we will rank each player prior to "pledging" (based on all available factors). As of today I have 14 commitments….need another 10 to make this work.

Individual Horserace:
Individuals can bet on anyone they choose. Each player
will have to decide immediately after betting if they want to buy
themselves. First and Second Places will be paid in each flight with
70% for First Place and 30% for Second. Individuals have the option of
buying themselves after the bets have closed. That individual will have
to pay half of the amount they sold for, the amount will only increase
the pot size, not count for the % of their winnings. If the individual
places, they get 30% of the winnings and the others that bet on him
split the remaining 70% according to the amount they bet.

Scenario: (these are all hypothetical #'s and situation)
Player-X's final cost for bets is $100. Player-X can and did buy himself for
$50. Say the total pot is $500 and Player-X won. 70% of the
$500 is $350. Player-X would get 30% ($105) of that and all those that bet
on Player-X to win would split the remaining 70% based on the percent of
Player-X's total bet. The remaining amount is $245 and the 5 people bet
for him to win would split that based on the percent of Player-X's total
bet they put in. Player 1 bet $10, gets $24.50; Player 2 bet $20, gets
$49, etc...

Those that bet on the second place guy would split the 30% ($150) based
on the amount they put in. The second place guy sold for $50 and chose
not to buy himself. Player 1 paid $10, gets $30; Player 2 paid $20,
gets
$60, etc…

If you are interested let me know.

Interesting....we call these calcuttas (modified in this case) in the shotgun target world. (i l l e g a l by the way so stay under the radar).

Same thing as a calcutta, just a more "acceptable" version

. It's all on the up-n-up, nothing but voluntary pledges.

I'd be interested (I work nearby) but I'm not nearly good enough to compete with single-digit handicaps. Have fun!

ps: I'll let anyone else I know about this

With this format it's all about your betting strategy…...and I'll do my best to inform the group of each players potential. So far we have guys of all abilities (0-30). More then anything it's just a chance to get away from the wife and kids, drink a few pops, and hit the little white ball around.
