Most you've ever paid for a round: $80, Robert Trent Jones (RTJ) Golf Trail's Capitol Hill, Judge course, Prattville, Ala.

Least you've ever paid for a round (other than "free"): $5, Eutaw Country Club, Eutaw, Ala.

Best course you've ever played: (tie) Bay Point Lagoon Legend, Panama City Beach, Fla., and RTJ Golf Trail's Cambrian Ridge (Sherling/Canyon course), Greenville, Ala.

Worst course you've ever played: University of Alabama course, Tuscaloosa, Ala. (since plowed under and turned into a park, thank goodness)

Most underrated course: Vanity Fair Golf and Tennis Club, Monroeville, Ala.

Most overrated course: Tannehill National, McCalla, Ala. (no longer exists)

Lowest round: 81, Mountain View Golf Course, Graysville, Ala.

Highest round: 141, Heatherwood Country Club, Birmingham, Ala.

Career holes-in-one: Zero.

Easiest golf course you've ever played: Highland Golf Course, Birmingham, Ala.

Hardest golf course you've ever played: RTJ Golf Trail's Oxmoor Valley, Ridge Course, Birmingham, Ala.

Most exciting moment on a golf course: Getting the phone number of an exceptionally cute cart girl at Frank House Memorial Golf Course in Birmingham, Ala.

Most heartbreaking moment on a golf course: (tie) Finding out same cart girl had already started dating someone by the time I called her the next weekend; and, lipping out a near hole-in-one at Vanity Fair Golf and Tennis Club, then missing a four-inch putt for birdie.

Most harrowing moment on a golf course: (tie) Nearly turning a three-wheel E-Z-Go golf cart over on itself (and me) trying to navigate a steep hill while going way too fast; hitting the head greenskeeper's golf cart (with him in it) right between the headlights with a drive. Both at Vanity Fair GC. Not in the same round, thankfully.

Most balls lost during a round: 24, Heatherwood Country Club, Birmingham, Ala. (see round of 141, above)

Most you've ever paid for a round: $100; Lochmoor GC, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, my dad once paid $350 to compete in his company golf outing, but couldn't go so I took his place.

Least you've ever paid for a round (other than "free"): $10; Fern Hill CC, Clinton Twp, MI

Best course you've ever played: Cabo Del Sol (Ocean Course), Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. A Nicklaus design with some absolutely stunning holes, you'll see I spent a little too much time looking at the Pacific than hitting golf shots.

Worst course you've ever played: Fern Hill CC

Most underrated course: Bay Pointe GC, West Bloomfield, MI

Most overrated course: Lochmoor GC

Lowest round: 75 (+5); Sunnybrook Golf & Bowl, Sterling Heights, MI (Yes, it's as easy as it sounds)

Career holes-in-one: Zero.

Most exciting moment on a golf course: Stiffing a PW from about 135 to about 18 inches in districts with about 100 people watching. Also, convincing an extremely inebriated middle-aged man that I was on the PGA Tour and watching him swerve his cart over to his friends to tell them he'd just met a professional golfer. Lying is fun.

Most heartbreaking moment on a golf course: Double Bogeying 18th hole in regionals to miss advancing to states as an individual by 2 strokes.

Most harrowing moment on a golf course: Blocking 5 consecutive shots OB on the third hole of my first ever high school match and proceeding to record a hole score of +11 16 and a 9-hole score of +25 61.

Most number of putts in an 18-hole round: Not sure, but I've probably never gone higher than 40 or 41.

Longest putt ever made: Roughly 45 feet

Most putts ever on a single hole: 5

Weirdest thing ever seen on a golf course: My friend driving a 330 yard green, the group in front of us picking the ball up off the green, then proceeding to refuse to let my friend see the ball that we witnessed them pick up.

Pebble Beach is the most I paid to play golf 17 years ago, I paid $250 but I also stayed at the lodge overlooking the 18th green which cost another pretty penny. Pebble Beach was my most memorable golf course because I got down on one knee and proposed to my beautiful and loving wife of 16 years on the 7th tee box (see picture near my signature). Since Pebble Beach, I am paying $21 at my home course Sharp Park in Pacifica, California where I have played my best round of golf lately with my best score of 3 under, and another round of 1 under including a total of 6 birdies with 4 in a row. In golf there are no worst or bad courses or days for me and when these thoughts are near, I can always remember the 2 hole in ones that I had. Fore!

Most you've ever paid for a round: $75, Pebble Beach late May 1982, about 3 weeks prior to the famous Watson/Nicklaus battle. The course was still open. I guess they waited longer to shut down the course at that point, particularly a public course. When I visited in '06 they were asking $425 so I passed.

Least you've ever paid for a round (other than "free"): $2 for first round, $1 rest of day at old defunct Kendale Country Club executive course in Miami. Come to think of it, Sunnycrest Park par 3 in Syracuse was 50 cents when I played there one summer as a kid.

Best course you've ever played: St. Andrews, age 15. It was incredibly cheap, I think 4 pounds. This was summer '74. My opening tee shot was a low straight line drive. Most memorable shot was 2 days later at the so-called "New" Course, a 4 wood into a wild left to right gale that boomeranged and ended up 2 feet from the hole, producing spontaneous laughter from myself and my younger sister, playing caddie.

Worst course you've ever played: Northernmost court on the planet, supposedly, in Fairbanks. Just awful, at least when I played there in '95. Glorified pasture with absurd greens.

Most underrated course: Pali Golf Course in Oahu. The locals didn't seem to care for it, due to some slope early on the back 9, and it was very barren compared to other courses on Oahu. It's adjacent to a very tough and famous course, something like Ko'Olau. I loved playing Pali. They gave me the local discount, I had terrific guys as playing partners, and the people in the clubhouse and snack bar were incredibly friendly with stories galore. They had a gambling related shootout on that course a few years ago with murders. For a Las Vegan that was interesting to hear about. And I couldn't seem to get a bad lie on that course.

Most overrated course: Anything in Las Vegas, at least based on price. I can't believe the greens fees they get away with here.

Lowest round: 70, Country Club of Miami in a junior tournament. Age 15 and 11 months. I missed a 3 footer for a par on 18 and a 69. Didn't seem like a big deal then. Little did I realize it was my golfing prime.

Highest round: No idea. I've thrown away a scorecard in mid round many times. No doubt it was on a narrow course in the northeast somewhere, and over 100.

Career holes-in-one: Zero. Unless you count about 30 on the homemade course in my grandfather's back yard with 20-50 yard holes.
Closest was an agonizing inch behind the hole with an 8 iron on a mountainy course in North Carolina, 145 yard par 3. Hole was concealed behind the bunker and I knew it was damn close. I gulped approaching the green and almost expected it to be invisible. 5 guys have aced playing in my group.

Easiest golf course you've ever played: Kendale Country Club, previously mentioned. It was an executive par 60. I shot 54 once and in the 50s all the time as a teenager but it was bogus, with some 200 yard par 4s and one that was a 186 yard par 4.

Hardest golf course you've ever played: Pebble Beach on that day in 1982. The rough was already up. I couldn't keep it in play the first 6 holes, double bogeys everywhere, then the last 6 holes I was even -- 4 pars, bogey out of front bunker on 17, and driver-3 wood-flip sand wedge from 40 yards, and a 5 foot putt for birdie on 18! That's one of the reasons I almost don't want to play there again, so I don't stain the memory of my last experience on that course.

Most exciting moment on a golf course: Watching Nicklaus and Weiskopf go head to head for 36 holes on Sunday at Doral (1978?). Weiskopf was outplaying him but Nicklaus kept chipping in to keep it tight. The look on Weiskopf's face was priceless every time. Tall Tom finally prevailed by one.

Most heartbreaking moment on a golf course: Choking in a high school match against the best player in the state, even par and all square on the last hole and hitting 2 balls in the water after he got desperate and tried to use gamesmanship on the last tee box.

Most harrowing moment on a golf course: Throwing a 6 iron over a fence at Calusa Country Club in Miami, after an errant tee shot on the par 3 #11. I tried to aim straight down the fairway but with a late release it spiraled over the fence on the left and into a swimming pool. No way I was going to leave it there. I scaled the fence and took a plunge, hoping the house wasn't owned by one of the South Florida Hispanics who will take a pot shot at anyone who invades their space.

Most balls lost during a round: I've almost emptied the bag several times. At an old long gone executive course in Miami called Colonial Palms I remember buying balls for 25 cents apiece in mid round from a guy with no arms. He would find them and pick them up with his bare feet and sell them near the 8th tee.

Most holes played in one day: 90, on that Kendall executive course, many times on weekends. My dad would drop us off at 6:30 and we'd play until dusk, with one brief stop for lunch in the clubhouse.

Fewest number of putts in an 18-hole round: No idea, but I was a great putter when I was a teenager and expected to make everything. The other top junior players would always mumble that they were far better tee to green but I could overtake them with the putter.

Most number of putts in an 18-hole round: Again no idea, but when I got the yips righthanded I had some horrible putting rounds before switching to lefty. Now I putt both ways depending on the break with an old Bullseye Wide Blade. Perfectly smooth lefty but shaky righthanded, although no more pure yips.

Longest putt ever made: I'll say 100. More than my share of 50+.

Most putts ever on a single hole: Probably 5. Just a guess. No wait, I played a course in the Poconos where the 10th green was an absurd slope. I putted up and back many times. That could have been anything. My dad thought it was funny as hell.

Weirdest thing ever seen on a golf course: A car pulling a boat coming straight toward me, last summer at Van Patten Golf Course in the Saratoga area. I had to delay my 2nd shot on a par 5. Finally it veered off the fairway and turned into a fenced area.

Oh yeah, another funny one. At about age 15 at Crooked Creek Country Club in Miami (now Kendall Greens), I was waiting to hit my 2nd shot to the green on the par 5 #5 hole. I was already a long hitter so it was legit. The 12ish kids in the group about 80 yards behind us were impatient. They yelled a few times. We scoffed at them and looked toward the green. Unbelievably, one guy hit his shot from behind us and the line drive hit me smack in the back. It hurt like heck but the amusement overtook the pain. I was on the ground and watched my friends chase after them. The younger kids threw their bags on the ground and were running back toward the 5th tee, screaming in sheer terror.

    • You may be able to find a regular flex Blueboard on the second hand market. I’m little more than half your age so I swing a shaft that launches pretty low so I don’t have a lot of experience with Regular flex (other than when I try to hit it I miss way to the left).    There are other shafts, such as the newer Ping Alta that I’ve heard good things about. And one that no one talks about. The Jupiter shaft. You can get this shaft for a $100 with a grip and your Ping adapter installed. I was talking to the golf manager at Dick’s Sporting Goods here and he has one in his driver and has nothing but good things to say about it. I thought about getting one for my Paradym Triple Diamond to play it a little shorter, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

    • Meanwhile, another old Tour Edge guy switches to Callaway for this season. I have a different problem, course dependent set-ups. What I’m wondering is if @dragonsmhas the 8 iron set 5-PW, AW, GW or just 5-PW, GW. Because the PW is 42°, AW 47°, and GW 52°. Because that could potentially be a gap there. The 5-iron to 6-iron length jump is 5/8” instead of 1/2” so you should be careful of that.    @WUTiger the problem most people have with 3-woods is they don’t play them far enough back into their stance. And they usually don’t have enough loft and the shaft is too long. So 3HL, 4 or 5-wood is probably better for most golfers. I do the “Frankenwood” approach. I have both the 3+ and 5 woods. I typically will either add two degrees to the 3+ on 6600 yards or longer courses, or take a degree off the 5-wood on shorter courses than 6300 or so, and use the 5-wood shaft for both. I don’t usually find a situation where I need both the 3 and 5 wood on a course. I don’t play from 7000 yards it’s no fun. Edit: I mostly agree with @WUTiger on the gapping, although a lot of the newer even fixed hosel fairway woods are made better than what we had when we were playing the old Exotics XRails.

    • I did read the fine print tonight. It said replace with “similar features & function”.  8 yeas ago my purchase had features that today are available on the lower end models and the current version of my model has more “bells & whistles” than what I got 8 years ago.  So I am thinking they honored the agreement and I can’t argue the offer. since getting a credit for the full purchase price all I am really out over the past 8 years was the cost of the extended warranty, which was less than a low end  treadmill would have cost me. now the question is which model to replace with.  I’ll stay with Nordic Track or I forfeit the $1,463 credit so I will get Nordic Track.  And they honored the warranty and were not hard to work with which is a plus.
