Any of you work out for golf, or just work out in general?

got together with one of my friends, who's really into tae kwon do, and loves to workout, so we started going to the local football field and working out, and it's done wonders to my golf game. Especially now that it's too hot to walk down here in Texas.

Today we went to the field, ran half a mile, some agility drills, the little rectangle with the ropes that section off squares (like tires, but gives you more options) 4 variations 3 times each, and his mom made us do 50 pushups before she would unlock the car, but this one car started circling the parking lot, blaring music. It was already dark so we got kinda spooked and left. and bleachers, 2 and a half sets ( 1 set being up-down 4 times.)

All in all, 45 minutes of a decent workout. Not much, but it helps the game more than you can imagine.

I dont get too crazy with weight training, I mostly do cardio to build up my endurance. Being really muscular actually doesnt help your golf game all that much.
Look at Tiger, he doesnt drive the ball much farther now than he did when he first turned pro, and he is a lot stronger now than he was back then.

I don't do any golf specific workouts but I'm usually working out 6 days a week just because I enjoy working out and enjoy being healthy.

Full body lifting on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and running (1 mile warmup followed by sprints and stadium stairs) on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Sunday is my day off.

Obviously plenty of big people play golf, but I agree that if you're in good shape, it can make things a lot easier.

Yeah, Tiger said he doesn't work out to hit the ball longer, but to hit all the shots he wants to hit, and to be the best athlete he can be.
Muscle helps, but i think only to a point. He's reached that point. So he just maintains that, and his incredible flexibility he can hit any shot he wants.

I work out 5-6 days a week. I don't go too crazy on the weight lifting. I'm mostly trying to incorporate more cardio into my routine.

I was a high school and college volleyball player, and was mostly focused on strength training to stay competitive. Since I just graduated, I'm looking for some golf specific work outs. I haven't found much but I came to the conclusion that flexibility is key in this sport.

we've had this conversation a LONG time ago and I got into a lot of trouble with the members on here... if you look around on Titleists TPI website you'll notice the golf fitness craze. Golf specific gyms, they exist in some places are a massive waste of money. There are workouts that help your golf game but there are no golf specific workouts. Exercises that strengthen your stabilizer muscles and enhance your flexibility are just athletic work outs. I cant associate any workouts to a specific sport...

if you want to work on your explosiveness I'd recommend joing a gym and working on total body movements workouts. Incorporate exercises using a medicine ball to strengthen your core, lighweight romanian deadlifts will work your back and hamstrings, and a series of speed plyometrics

I completely agree, I would never just do a workout that supposedly only works out certain aspects of you body. You need to do full body workouts in order to get the best out of a workout.

I also would highly recommend weight lifting. I'm not saying go out and get huge like a body builder, because I'm not and that's not my goal, however, you should throw in weight training. Not only will it help later on in your life, but if you only do cardio, you actually lose muscle mass. While it may not help you with your golf game, it certainly can't hurt your game and will only help you health-wise.

We used to have a Lifetime Fitness membership, where i did the weight training 2x a week, but we canceled it because we have to rennovate our house and its costing a fortune.

My friends mom, who is directing our workouts makes us do certain drills to help our strength for the very reason of losing muscle mass. And she makes sure we eat alot of protein.

It is a little weird having your friends mom always ask you what you've been eating, but it's also encouraging to eat well, and she pushes us hard when we go and workout.

I don't work out specifically for golf, but Ive been working out 5 days a week for the past couple months to try and stay in shape. Hopefully I keep up the routine when school comes around, but anyways.

Oddly enough, I seem to hit the ball better and more accurate after working out because my arms are tired which causes me to stay compact and swing smoother. I dont know how to explain it, but I noticed a positive difference in that area.

My workout is usually just upper body for about half an hour, and then a half hour jog after.

I do work out a bit, but it's for hockey not golf, and it's not that extensive. I do some weight training and cardio, focusing mainly on my legs and core. I run 5 miles every friday, ride a stationary bike for 20 minutes every other day, and do 50 squats (no weight) every other night, lots of push-ups and crunches too.
