Hey guys I'd just like to start off by saying that this forum has been a wonderful place for me, and has really helped me pick up some nifty little shots. Unfortunatley my driving is still garbage. One day I'm averaging 260 in the middle and two weeks later I cant hit it in the air. So I'm looking for one person to voulenteer their knowledge to me, one person whom I could PM, ocasionaly with updates to how my driving's going, and offer some advice. The reason I say one, is everyone has their own theories and sometimes people have such different ideas that it crosses me up. If someone would be so generous as to voulenteer a bit of thier time, I'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks :)

I'm sorry if I'm hijacking your thread King Cobra II.

I also suffer inconsistency with only my driver, same as you KCII. But hit my irons and hybrids very well. I get razzed on a lot when I do this, but some rounds I keep the driver parked in my bag. Even on the par fives. There are rounds where I can hit my driver straight 250 yards, days where I hook it so severely that it rolls down the fairway 100 yards, and then times where it pushes right 20 to 30°.

Could I get some view points on how to hit with the driver? What are the fundamental differences between swinging the long and short sticks, if any?
I realize that there's a difference in weight, length, teed up ball height, ball address position. Do any of these factors change how you approach the swing any differently?

I'll try to create a video soon.
Thanks in advance for any of your input,

Mark

Mind helping a second? I'll film myself driving...

of course...send me a message with your video....i'd prefer if you can put it up on swing academy so that i can slow motion it. I dont have the URL handy but you can just google 'swing academy'

I'm sorry if I'm hijacking your thread King Cobra II.

For years i was the same way. Couldnt figure out how to swing driver. It was really something. I was able to flush a 3iron 215 yards...but i couldnt get my driver to do anything...i'd be happy if i just got the face of the driver on the ball. Now, the driver has become my easiest club to hit. I'm more confident that i can make a nice and easy swing at put the ball 280 in the center of the fairway than i am that i'll stick an iron from 160. Its done wonders for my score. The importance of the short game is immense, but being able to get the ball in the fairway a long way i feel is almost as important. It takes a lot of pressure off your approach and short game.

Because you are a pretty good ballstriker with your irons, i'm sure we can get you there too. The reason for this is so many issues can be fixed with proper setup. Its actually comical. You may not be able to attain a perfect swing, you can certainly attain a perfect setup. Just a personal anecdote, my instructor asks me to hit my driver. I hit some ugly worm burning hook that bashes off the heel of my club. After 15 minutes of adjusting my setup, i hit one like 270. We both laughed. The next day i went out for a round with my friends. I had a par 5 501 yard hole with some breeze behind me. I took a nice and easy swing ...the breeze got some of it.. and it went pretty long. I actually didnt think it went that far because i took a pretty low effort swing. We get to the ball..look on the gps...and i was 200 yards out from the flag...it was my first 300 yarder. For me... i had a pretty good swing down...nice shoulder turn and not a lot of hip action...my setup was just retarded and inconsistent. That said, post a video of your swing (i'd recommend using swing academy so that i can slow motion it) and and get a picture of your setup with 3 angles...one from the front (like the camera man can see the face of the club)..and another from the side..so that i can see the angles of your arms ...and one from behind so that i can see your posture etc. With that, i believe we can all get you in the right direction

I'm sorry if I'm hijacking your thread King Cobra II.

The only difference is set up, at address for the driver (if your right handed golfer) raise your left shoulder a litte more then your right, also put the ball a little more foward in your stance. This will help get the ball in the air and catch it on the upswing, thats the only dif for the driver. Your swing should be the same for all your clubs. I'm sure you've heard that the longer the club, the more it will show flaws in your swing. The way I fixed my diver problems was to practice with my short irons, till I was sure I was making good contact , then you move up to longer ions, ect, ect. Hope that helps.
