I am hitting my irons (MP57) way, way high. I love that my swing has finally come around and the iron shots are looking great, but I know it is just too high.
I place the ball in the middle of my stance.

Any suggestions to give a shot?
Thanks

If you are not hitting True Temper Dynamic Golds try those. If you are, try a stiffer flex. If you don't want to reshaft, try a lower spinning ball. You could move the ball back more, but that really should be reserved for specialty shots...i.e. into the wind, under a tree limb, out of a divot, etc. Maybe try a little forward press at address to set your wrist in a defolting position? I WISH I had this problem. Good luck.

Well, I'm just not getting distance I should be, only carrying a 9i about 110-115 per say. I'm 6'1", decent structure and have a driver speed of around 95-100.
Plus, a "Pro-to-be" who was watching me one day said I did, but sure didn't offer up any advice.

Maybe let me ask this, let's say I would need to hit a shot low, i.e wind, obstructions, etc..., how would I approach that? Maybe looking at what I could be doing opposed to changing it might have a more positive outlook.

Using sensicore regular, but same problem with stiff DG's I've hit and demoed.
Back, as in towards rear foot, correct?
And what is that wrist defolt thing, can you explain a little more please?

I think you'll find out that you need S300 shafts.

Well I'll try to explain as I hit my shots low naturally. At address right before I begin my swing, I "press" or move the but of the club toward the target. This, for me, pre-sets a wrist cock. It's just a swing trigger I use. I hit down hard on every shot, but it's almost like every shot for me is a punch shot. I think less wrist action it the key. Imagine you are driving the ball down into the turf and not sliding the club under the ball.

Basically you are trying to turn your 9 iron into an 8 iron, if that makes sense. You will take a bigger divot this way, but the ball will take off on a lower trajectory. The difference being this shot will have a high amount of spin but won't balloon as much. Some people naturally hit their ball higher. I have a bud that hits rainmakers with a 4 iron. I on the other hand launch my 12* driver at about 12*. You would think I grew up playing golf in Texas. As for in the wind shots, I usually place the ball almost off my back foot. Ideally you would go up a club and “choke down” but I could never hit a choke down shot. Maybe practicing shots off your right foot would help groove that delofted feel. At address, you hands couldn’t help but be in front of the ball. But I would just use this to groove the feel, not as my all around go to shot.

I have the same problem, I play regular shafts, but play all the shots to middle or front. I can easily hit my 7 or 6 iron as high as someones regular pitching wedge. I still get the distance though, with an 8 iron being my 150 club.

thats BS I hit my irons high and the pro at my course said thats fine, plus like the other post said when it hits the green it sticks nice with little roll, thats what you want. Your distance is the problem, could be lots of things clubs, shafts, swing? who knows.

If your driver swing speed is really 95-100mph and you're only hitting your 9i 110-115, then is there is definitely something wrong. You're probably scooping/getting underneath the ball rather than coming down on it to pop it up.

Try what Stacy mentioned in conjunction to moving the ball back a little in your stance. I've seen a decent amount of golfers use a forward press as a trigger for their swing. Try just starting off with your hands a little ahead of the ball at address.

I am in no position to give you advice, but I'll tell you what happened to me last weekend.

I was on the range working on my swing when someone walked by and mentioned a free TrackMan demo. It was quiet on the range, so I decided to talk to the guy and take some swings. I set up and hit one ball.. Pushed it right and a fairly weak shot (130y with I7). He looks up and says: "You leave your club face open on impact, close it.." I had worked my way towards a in-out swing over the last couple of weeks, so a open clubface lead to a weak straight push. Took some more swings and improved my distance on every swing as I focussed hard on closing my clubface. Then I took his advice to the range on Monday and got a great draw going. A little inconsistent still, but I had a fair number of crisp long shots.. more than any time before. It could be a number of things. For me it was closing the clubface.

Thanks so much guys, all very sensible and appreciate the timer spent. Plus we have a Zappa guy!Stacy, on occassion, I do do the wrist cock in my pre-swing drill, but with the long laundry list I forget more often than not. I will try that along with the other ideas to try.
Zappa, I know I do do the scooping thing, no matter how I try, I just can't seem to stop doing it. This could very well be my biggest issue. I will often blow shots for coming in too far behind the ball. Only thing I attribute it to is years of doing it the wrong way, I can guess it came from years ago not being able to hit fairway woods and working with them all one summer. Now, I hit fairway woods great, but it is time to truly get the fundamentals down so I can get down to a consitent score I'm happy with, I also do close the clubface 95% of the time, that alone helped my overall swing SO MUCH this summer.
I know it is time for another refresher lesson, maybe this week I can make it.

With solid contact and swinging decent, normal distances, 95% of my playing time:
drives: 225-260
3w: 190-220
7i: 140

I'm happy with my woods overall, it is the irons that are failing me. I'll often be say 140 out, knowingly can hit my 7 that far, then 9/10 times come up short.

Describe your divots on the 7 irons up. If you are not taking divot then you a sweeping a bit and adding loft to those clubs. Sometimes we have a tendency to try and help the ball into the air with those clubs. Stacey_E had some good advice. Swing those clubs at a steeper angle and take a good divot. The loft of the club will easily get the ball into the air.

I like hitting the ball high. I hit the ball high and it sticks. I can also use a lot of spin if needed, but I find that the high shot helps me out a lot more. Most tour players hit the ball high and stick it. The greens that they play on, it is much better to hit it high with no a lot of spin than to hit it low and try to control it with spin.
