Pudge a Yankee

Pudge was traded from the Tigers to the Yankees today for Kyle Farnsworth....wow....thoughts?

for sure an improvement over Molina imho.....

(Yankee fan here)Looking forward to seeing that growl on his face as he is throwing a runner out at second base. Hopefully the pitching won't suffer though, it has been one of the Yanks big problems the last few years.

Molina is terrible at the plate, but the best defensive catcher. He needs a day off too...so now he'll get plenty of them

Bye Bye Farnsworthless. We just got a great replacement for Posada.

I feel like we could have gotten a little more than a B level relief pitcher for one of the greatest defensive catchers in the history of the game. Still, our bullpen needs as much help as it can get right now.

He will be missed.

Well, yeah, for this year only. Pudge will be a Yankee up until W.S. game 7 if we make it all the way to that point - but that's it. Posada will be our starter in 2009.

I don't know about that...I could see Giambi being gone next season with Posada moving to 1st (remember he was a INF before being coverted over to a C) and bare with me here but I can see Manny being in LF next season (even more so seeing I doubt the RS pick up his option during the off-season) and Matusi moving to just DH, just my opinion though

This is, personally, how I see our lineup in the 2009 season:

3. Abreu, RF
4. A-Rod, 3B
5. Teixeria, 1B
6. Matsui, DH
7. Nady, LF
8. Posada, C
9. Cano, 2B

I honestly see Melky being moved...because I think we are going to make a run at Mark Teixera...

and I could also see us getting C.C. Sabathia or Ben Sheets. One of the two.

Honestly, we will not throw that much money at M. Ramirez when so many elite pitchers are on the market...no way in hell.

I forgot about Abreu, I don't think they resign him given the chance to get Manny, and Tex is going to garner way to much money imho (and isn't worth it when they could move Jorge to 1b)

I do think they get CC though as you stated and given the money they save by not resigning Abreu or signing Tex that they get another decent front line starter along with CC

Manny is a great hitter. Many argue that he is the greatest right handed batter of all time...I agree, personally, but I can understand if people think Mays or Aaron were better.

I just couldn't fathom the idea of Manny Ramirez wearing pinstripes, honestly. After all those years he's killed us in Boston, and even in Cleveland, I don't think I could accept him on the Yankees. It even took me a really long time to accept Damon.

Anyway, moving Jorge Posada to 1st base would not really be a good idea...because Pudge Rodriguez will be 37 next season, that's pretty darn old for a catcher...he's going to want a big deal I'm sure, with Scott Boras his agent...and their is no way the Yankees give him that...

Plus, you want power and hitting out of your 1st baseman. What can you expect from Posada? He hit what .260 this year? I know he was hurt, but even he claimed that the shoulder DID NOT bother him while he was at the plate - only throwing. So what if he hits .260 next year with 12 home runs and 60 RBI...that is clearly not enough production out of your 1st baseman.

That's why I see us re-newing Bobby Abreu's contract, and going after Mark Teixeria and CC Sabathia. I know they would both command HUGE contracts, but the Yanks are unloading Giambi, Mussina, Pettite, and a few other smaller ones. (Although I think the Moose or Andy is coming back - not both, but one...)

Next years pitching staff:

2. Joba
3. Wang
4. Mussina
5. Hughes

Now, that, sir is a scary staff.

Combine that with the lineup I gave you before, and baring injuries, if the Yankees don't win the W.S. in 2009, that is an epic fail.

Jose Molina has one of the highest (if not the highest?) percentages in baseball when it comes to throwing out runners. Pudge is (or at least was?) just as good. Good to see top notch catchers on this team (and leading this team). Pudge also gives Joe options when it comes to making up his lineup for the day. He can insert Pudge higher in the order not only because he is a better hitter, but also a better base runner.

Kyle has been pitching lights out recently (something like only 1 or 2 hits in the last 30+ batters. Just hope Jimmy Leyland can keep it going with him (I hope not for the Yankees sake

). To behonest though, I'm glad we got rid of Farnsworth. Pudge = proven champ. Kyle = proven chump (in the end).

No way Manny is coming to the Yankees. His personality just doesn't fit with being a Yankee. Sure there are some exceptions (Reggie Jackson? A-Rod?), but Manny certainly is not one of them. Did anyone see him botch a fly ball, reach for his cap (that fell off) BEFORE going for the ball, then roll over the ball getting it stuck underneath his ass? God, what an ass. I can see him possibly playing for the Mets though (not that theres any chatter about that possibility).

The Yanks sure are getting desperate! Pudge is decent now, nothing like what he used to be. The yanks need better pitchers, but they need a replacement for Posada.

Honestly, its a futile effort to even cheer this season if you're a red sox or yankee fan. Look out for the Angels - they're taking it all this year...again.

I hope we don't do something dumb like getting rid of the Melk man. This kid has unreal potential. Already one of the best defensive outfielders with a decent bat which is only going to get better.
I don't know how anyone else feels about Girardi but I really really miss Torre. In fact, I went to the Nats/Dodgers game last night and when Joe came out for a pitching change, I stood up and yelled Come back to New York Joe. Got a couple looks from people around me lol.
I just hope Steinbrenner doesn't go crazy with stupid trades this off season if/when we don't make the playoffs.

Yes, I do know that. For whatever reason, he couldn't swing a bat this year to save his life. I think he'll turn out to be an incredible player as he matures.
