My favorites are Judy Rankin (very knowledgeable and interesting), Dottie Pepper (also very knowledgeable and interesting, and NOT afraid to "call 'em as she sees them"), and Jennifer Mills (although she does not do much any more, since she "retired" from The Golf Channel). Jennifer is the consummate professional. Judy and Dottie had great careers, and both won Majors. Dottie was the inspiring force for the US Solheim Cup team because of her competitive fire.

Dottie is really the Johnny Miller of women broadcasters, and sometimes gets into trouble for her frank comments. I do not get bent out of shape for her mistake in calling her family friend, Laura Diaz, and other Americans on the Solheim Cup team "chokin' freaking dogs" when they were failing to do well on the 18th hole. She did not know that when they cut away from her for a commerical, the mike was still on. The network apologized since it really was their mistake. If she fails to be named a Captain of the Solheim Cup team in the future because of this incident, I think the LPGA is dead wrong. Her comment actually fired up the team and then they did better on closing their matches.

I find her candor refreshing. Early on, two years ago, she said that she disagreed with Michelle Wie's desire to skip playing LPGA events to compete with the men. Annika and other veterans said the same thing for three reasons:

1. It was a slap in the face to the LPGA Tour that she would bypass them.

2. She had not WON on the LPGA Tour, so what was the hurry to play on the PGA Tour? If she is not good enough to beat the gals, what makes her think that she can be competitive with the guys?

3. It had the appearance of a publicity stunt to get as much media attention as possible in order to maximize her endorsement contract income.

Who are your favorite announcers among women?

I'm with you. Judy and Dottie are a great team, because Judy is so calm and thoughtful.

On another forum, someone mentioned seeing a replay of an event Dottie was in a dozen years ago. She was miked throughout, and it was fun listening to her. The line I need to use for that pitch/chip onto the green is, "bite like a police dog!" So much more colorful than the usual "sit, sit, sit."

That sounds like Dottie, who used to yell at her ball at the time. If I am not mistaken, when she hit a shot that she did not like, she would talk to Herself, as in "Dorothy, WHY did you do that?"

I am a Dottie fan too. I watched her lay it to Annika a few years back on a Golf Channel replay the other night. She had game!

Yes, she did. It is too bad her shoulder injury ended her career prematurely. She is a tough competitor and tried to keep playing through the pain, but she could not hit good shots, so she decided "this is the end of one road, and the beginning of another". I am glad that she turned to become a TV broadcaster.

I Can Not Stand Judy Rankin! The sound of her voice makes me want to change the channel, and, more often than not, I do. So dull and drab. Drives me carazy!

I agree and disagree with you. Yes, her voice is NOT the most exciting in broadcast journalism history-----BUT-----------her knowledge and insights are invaluable. She and Dottie make a good team, because Dottie is MS. EXCITEMENT as a "color commentator" while Judy plays the role of the serious "tell the story" reporter.

    • We do not buy extended warranties. We will use one of our credit cards for the purchase that extends the warranty "x 2". Our thoughts are: a. if the item is a lemon, it will likely break right away and we can attempt to apply the original warranty or credit card extension. b. over the long haul, we will probably save more money by not purchasing the extended warranty and fixing/junking broken items out of our own pocket. The important thing is to keep some records of purchases so one may make a claim under the manufacturer's warranty. I recently sent back some Footjoy shoes for leaking and Footjoy did a reat job of making the claim process work very well. I had the original receipt, warrant info and box. Easy peasy.

    • This is pretty much how I look at it.  I understand there are times when the piece of mind has value. I think over the long haul I'm money ahead by never buying the extended warrantee. Hell, What do I know? I went to Ch!cago PubIic SchooIs.
