The Legend's of Massillon (Ohio) course. Touted as one of the top-100 'must play' courses in Ohio. Links style course with lots of 'hidden' sand bunkers disguised as hills from the tee box, but are full of sand on the other side. Not sure I feel this 'fair' when it comes to design.

http://www.thelegends.com/ Note: I have no affilliation to this course, whatsoever ... just thought I'd post the link for reference to the rest of the story ....

Also lots of creeks which appear to be 'cut in' across several fairways but again, you can't see them because they are more like 'trenches' and not what one would expect to see if it's a REAL creek. Some of the tee boxes had these "distance to hazard" stakes that people were kind enough to scratch off one of the three numbers--usally the MIDDLE number!

One par-5 had the creek (more like a 10' wide trench!) out at 215. I carry a driver and a #3 hybrid! Hit the hybrid into a pretty stiff breeze. It went about 170. Hit the hybrid another 180 down the middle ... then another 170 onto the green! Kind of an odd way to play a par-5 and make par!

Many of the holes were straight, but again, laced with large moundings, bunkers and rough jutting into the fairway areas. Greens were HUGE!!! I was in "3-putt land" much of the time. And this leads me to my biggest disappointment for this 'must play' course:

The condition of the greens. Those who played before us apparently had NEVER seen a ballmark repair tool or NOBODY was using one! Every green out there looked like golfball-sized hail had pelted them for hours. My wife is a relative newbie to the game and noticed it about the third green as her putts bounced merrily off-line toward each hole.

Honestly, I got tired of fixing the several ball marks in my line on each green. I'd fix them all the way to my ball on the green each time as well. Probably fixed well over a hundred yesterday.

Overall, the fairways were gorgeous, the course 'interesting' despite a couple of attributes there to 'trick' players. Had the greens been in any kind of shape (not the course's fault) I probably would have scored better.

43-43-86. One disaster hole on the back nine and five 3-putts (overall) due to being 50' plus on several greens. One hole I had about a 100 footer for birdie!

Best thing? The weather was perfect and the WIFE PAID!!!

And how was YOUR weekend golf?

Great story! I'm glad you got a chance to try that. You can check that one off your list.

I found a new "cheap" course. Its a 9-hole that you can play 18 if you play it twice. But, its only $15, including cart. It was a fairly average course. Nothing to write home about. It was in decent shape, although the lack of rain out here has made the fairways pretty hard. The interesting part came as you finished up #6 straight uphill. And then #7 was blind all the way down. It doglegs back to the right, but there is a pond on the right. So you have to tee off down the left, carry the water, and then make the turn back to the right. All blind from the tee-box.

An interesting two holes, even if the rest of the course was nothing to right home about. For 15-bucks though, it was a cheap way to play.

In any event... I guess I was just rambling there. My whole point. I had a good day, and I'm glad your weekend was even better. A great weekend for golf, it seems. Especially since you had fun, with your wife, and she ponied up the cash.
