Invited Shingdig out for a bit of golf today at my place. We both had some bad shots, and some really good shots. Shindig chipped to save some strokes, and made a nice birdie late in the day. I struck the ball nicely and gave myself some good looks at birdie. Only managed to convert one... bleh. The weather couldn't have been any better. No smog in the air. All around a fun afternoon.

You guys didn't even tell me you were playing...

Was that the first time you guys had met?

I am still yet to play with anyone I've met on the Sandtrap, but would welcome the opportunity to play with people I don't know, especially since I just moved here.

Funny thing... before I began law school I talked to a few guys on a DB that were thinking of attending the same school... long story short... of the five of us, three of us are still pretty good friends, one dropped out first year, one never came to our school... point is... it's wierd how you can meet people with similar interests today.

My Clubs: Callaway FT-i Tour LCG 9.5° w/ Matrix Ozik Xcon 6 stiff; Sonartec GS Tour 14° w/ Graphite Design Red Ice 70 stiff; Adams Idea Pro 2h(18°) & 3h(20°) w/ Aldila VS Proto 80 stiff; Adams Idea Pro Forged 4-PW w/ TT Black Gold stiff; Cleveland CG12 DSG RTG 52°-10° & 58°-10°; Odyssey...

That was a great afternoon. We both finished birdie-par. But wow, the weather was perfect as was the course.

Ben and I met at the L.A. Open, but this is the first time we've played golf together.

Are you out in L.A. now? How long have you been here? Where do you play? I'd be happy to meet up to play. There can be future afternoons of golf with Shindig, especially once October starts up and I'm back on my school schedule.

No... I was only joking, but would welcome the chance to play a round with some fellow Sandtrappers. I am here in North Carolina just NE of Charlotte, and I am usually in SE Michigan and NW Ohio a few times a year. If I ever do go out to Cali, maybe I'll come play Ben's course... if I can get on. Anyway... sounds like a good day of golf you guys had... it is always nice to finish the round strong.

If you can't get on Ben's course, you can get on mine (public courses).

I'd play with Shindig and ben anyday. But I'm Canadian.. it is Really hard to see anyone from my town on this forum.

There are some good colleges out this way, if you find yourself going to school here.

i'm hurt that I wasn't invited.

I've been meaning to get back to El Dorado Park... maybe some weekend.

look on the bright side... you're one of the few who can have a tee time at 9:00 PM and still get in 18. I have seen another Alaskan lurking around, unless of course it was you with a different avatar.

    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!
    • Do you have examples of exceptional scores versus their established handicap indexes?

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
