spin on a Prov1 can be excessive, but it is made to spin.

Try a different ball?

I switched to cheaper balls that would not spin so rediculous on full wedge shots. Tp reds and top flite gamers will spin and check on wedges.

I love the feel of the prov1's but find the gamers and res more functional on full wedge approaches.

Yes, I know... blasphemy!

you have a 10 yard deep green? that is a shallow green. don't rant. switch your ball. a taylormade tp red ldp should help that problem.

The really good guys can control their spin. I don't spin the ball back, ever, but I don't want to either. I think I remember announcers talking about how much better Tiger was at controlling the spin on his wedges than he used to be. I saw Sabitini hit a wedge this weekend with a divot that looked like an otter. Guess where the ball ended up? Front fringe, after spinning back. So many golfers are absolutely obessed to the point of no return on backspin. They either want it but don't have it, or they have it and don't want it. It's the easiest thing in the world to alieviate. Try a harder distance ball, something at Walmart maybe.

Hit a 56 degree softer next time.

green was soft and tilted back to front? .. that's gonna do that on a full lob wedge, it's what it was designed to do. I rarely hit a full lob .. chip a sand wedge from 80 yards .. 70 yards is a punch lob ..

I also play a prov1x now for just that reason .. V1's had too much spin .. V1X's generally stop on a dime, if the green is tilted back to front .. i can get about 10' of spin back with a 7 iron.

Too much emphasis placed on spin these days….bordering on obsessive. If you hit a shot and it spins off the green, well, it was not a good shot. The goal is to get the ball as close to the hole as possible, not to see how much you can get it to spin.

this is very true, i hit some shots where the pin is tucked in front and it jerks off the front, my buddies say "GREAT SHOT" and in my mind im thinking "no it isnt, its not even on the green!" lol some people just dont know i guess?

I agree its not a good shot, its horrible to have a scoring club and not even be on the green.

I did play the prov1, but it spun wayy to much, like 10 feet, so i switched to the x, and i really cant back that one up more than three unless i really try. Thats what was so odd about this, 20+feet is alot of spin.

Regarding the green, IT was at my local executive course(school holds tryouts there so that the C team and JV dont tear up a nicer course) None of the greens there really have a whole lot of break, i think the deviation between the back wehre the pin was and the front was maybe a foot. not much.

Im really not all that into spin. Its useful on holes wehre you can throw it behind the hole and bring it back so you have an uphill putt, but 20 feet on a flat green was just weird.

It's tough to control spin with a ProV1, thats why I prefer the X's.

I agree that there is alot of emphasis on spin. I actually switched to TM TP Blacks, I find the spin is similar to the V1x, but with more distance.

I have a super high trajectory on all of my shots and almost never take any kind of a divot. I've been trying out some ProV1x balls with the trusty Vokey Spin milled 60 degree lob wedge. For the life of me I can't get any backspin on it.

Normally my balls will kindof fly really high and then just plop down as if dropped from straight above and sit there. However, there are some greens and some shots where it would be beneficial to make sure it can come back a little bit, like if the green is sloped downhill from the hole, it may help to stop the ball.

How the heck do you get the ball to spin? I think currently my swing kindof scoops the ball up the clubface... not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Don't worry about getting backspin. It'll come with better technique. You have to hit down on the ball and make ball first contact. Having a ball stop exactly where you carry it is definitely not a bad thing to have with a lob wedge shot.
