Hey all, did a search for PEDs and couldn't quite find one that this would fit well with. Anyway - this drug is still in early testing (on mice and I believe some human trials) but it seems it could be the perfect drug for us golfers - lets face it - of all sports, golf is still one of the laziest when it comes to fitness - even with Tiger and Vijay and their strenuous workout routines. Does anyone find this kind of ridiculous?

Interesting....However, it sounds more like a weight loss drug than performance enhancement.

I honestly believe Golf is one of the few sports where steroids or PED's won't have a huge impact. Hitting it further doesn't mean you will score.

So are we condoning laziness? Why should I exercise (being an able body) when I can take a pill to do it for me? This some what reminds me of that animation Wall-E that was released not too long ago. Where machines did everything for them.

I disagree with you. Golf is about stroke, technique & flexibility. that's why Camilo can bomb the ball further than a lot of people that have literally 8 inches on him.

As for "taking a pill that does it" please get your facts on "performance enhancing" drugs proper. "steroids" provide the body with a means to recover faster and break down slower during workouts thus straining them to break them down to the point of "exhaustion." Steroids DO NOT automatically make someone bigger, stronger, faster, etc. Steroids actually in time contribute to the body deteriorating. Steroids will not give an "unfair" advantage in the case of person a being lazy & taking a placebo person b being lazy & taking steroids. if you're lazy and take it..you'll still be lazy & you won't provide your muscles with the means to break them down to rebuild. that's how strength & mass is achieved.. working out is simply breaking down the muscles so that when they rest, they're rebuilding. a steroid will not break down the muscle and rebuild it for itself. and if the case of someone who roids can hit it further than someone who doesn't.... I know someone who plays golf and uses winstrol (a known cutting agent & performance enhancing drug). It's completely legal in many countries. I'll hit it further, more cleanly & consistently than he does...and he's been playing golf just as long if not longer than me. like people say barry bonds cheated... no barry bonds took a performance enhancing drug and worked out with it... steroids don't teach you how to stroke a baseball bat, golf club, etc. they help you with your muscles so that they can be stronger given the proper means of breaking them down to rebuild

There was an article in The Economist ( I think) a couple days ago about the use of genetic engineering to enhance performance.

The particular situation they highlighted concerned stimulating the body to produce more EPO, rather than take the manufactured version. The "homemade" EPO would be much harder, if not impossible to detect.

EPO isn't going to do much for a golfer, but you can bet other genetic therapies will emerge. Many will, like EPO, have legitimate and beneficial medical uses, but no doubt athletes will find it irresistable to use them for cheating.

It's rather quickly getting to the point where there will not be a single legitimate record or victory in sports. So far, golf has kept its nose pretty clean, but that will change as long as the amounts of money continue or rise. Grantland Rice was correct in his prophesy: money has ruined sports.

I know that personally, I watch less and less sports at any level past HS, and that only when I have family members participating. College and pro are largely cesspools of cheating and corruption.

    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
