My driver just recently broke. I was thinking of purchasing a Titleist 975D Driver. I looked and it said that it was only 260cc. I thought that would be way too small compared too other drivers (460cc). But then I thought too myself, "I hit my fairway woods much straighter off of the tee". So I was thinking that if I got a smaller head on my driver, that I might eliminate my slice a little. Plus, I'd save some green (It's only $15). Tips are appreciated. Thanks.

I have a 400cc driver and I lose about 20-25 yards compared to other 460cc drivers that I have used.

I will eventually upgrade to a 460cc as soon as I find one I like. I just cant get over the head size.

I purchased one awhile ago when I was having serious issues with my sumo2. I actually gained some distance with the 975D - it is a heavier club - but my distance gain couldve been from me fixing some flaws with my swing.

You are paying about what I did so it is a steal at that price.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

The bigger the head, the better. The reason why you dont slice your fairway woods is likely more because of the shorter shaft, not the smaller head.

I hit my G2 a good 15-20 yards farther than my old Cobra SS350 which i hit 10 yard farther than my callaway big bertha. That said I used to bomb the 975j farther than my cobra so take it for what thats worth. I didnt notice any better or worse accuracy with any of them.

Its $15 get it and if it sucks then get something else is my suggestion.

If you concentrate the mass behind the ball you'll get more momentum. Bigger heads are forgiving if you need forgiveness. My professional says he'd lower every player's handicap by 2 strokes by taking the driver right out of the bag.

I just bought a Taylormade 260cc driver and a Callaway GBB 250cc driver. I always slice with anything bigger than 360cc, so I stick to the smaller drivers.

$15, how can you go wrong. The 975D has a small sweet spot, maybe the size of a quarter, but you can't beat the price.

On ebay there was a Taylor Made R540xd driver 400cc that sold for $31 plus $12 shipping cost for a total of $43 - $15 and for $28 more you can buy a driver that many low handicap golfer are still using today.

My dad has that driver. He got it for $60 about 6 months ago and he refuses to get anything else. He loves it.

For that price its the bang for a buck. But if you spend more money and get like 440cc or 460cc clubs it helps way more then a 260cc head if you got the GREEN

That is not sound advice a driver isnt better just because the head is bigger.

How do? The bigger the head, the bigger the sweetspot. The bigger the sweetspot, the more likely you are to hit solid, straight drives.

I dont know about you, but with how bad my golfswing is some days, I take the biggest sweetspot I can get!

Or you can wait for the Titleist D2 or D1. Since titleist is going to release the new 909 drivers out in october you can buy your $20 club right now and wait for the D2 OR D1 to drop down

I played the 975D today, really small driver but it gives me that some sort of confidence. Its kinda heavy so it actually feels really good, and the size of the head really doesn't effect anything at adress. It looks sweet.

I love the older titleist, like Dent said, it's very confidence inspiring at address.
And i don't believe size has a massive affect on distance. Maybe 5-10 yards, but nothing major. I just got a 400cc 905T driver, still big, but smaller than most, and I hit it further than my dad's 905R. If i found the driver you found for 15 dollars, id buy it just to hit it on the range for fun.

Thats fine I undestand all that but it doesnt automatically make it a better club just because the head is 460cc instead of 425cc or whatever. And its very possible to hit the sweet spot and still not hit the ball straight.

If you're going to get a driver with a head that small, why not just a 3 wood or 5 wood off the tee? Honestly, not much difference.

I will agree with this. I have tried a number of newer, bigger drivers in the last year or so. I always go back to my 983E. Until I find something that I can hit straighter and further I will continue to use it. I am going to stop trying out the new drivers until something comes out that is smaller (maybe the 909 D3?) Personally, I think that the head size is out of control. Not everyone wants a 460cc driver, but that is about all you can find anymore.

To answer the OP...for $15 give it a shot. If it has the right shaft in it, it may be perfect. Can't beat the price. I probably have $15 in my penny jar at home.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.
