Having trouble "turning up the power" with the driver

Lately I've been trying to power up a bit with my driver, looking to add some distance. How ever when ever I try to give it a little extra something my left foot (I'm right handed) comes off the ground a bit, and I open it up and swing at it like a baseball. i can't seem to transfer my weight and swing really agressively with a wood, but I cant with an iron. What should I do?

Take a look at this thread and the three videos I posted on swing transition. It is a key to better distance in my opinion. Whenever I get posted up on my front leg properly I always hit it further. The second thing would be lag. Gotta keep the angle between club shaft and arms as long as possible. The transition helps this too. Swinging harder does very little for you because it throws off your timing.

The key is expectation, how much further do you honestly think you are going to hit it swinging out your shoes? probably no more than 15 yards. In my opinion get some lessons and go to the gym and do your golf related exercises. Hitting the ball harder is not the best way to gain distance.

I go to the gym daily, and would consider my self in very good shape for a golfer. I'm not a meat head, but I'm pretty strong and flexible. What our 'golf' muscles?

Your 'core' muscles.

Look into a Yoga or Pilates course that focuses on these areas. There are even courses specifically tailored for golfers. I'm hoping to sign up for one here soon.

'Golf Muscles' in my opinion is the wrong way of looking at it, its patently obvious most muscles are going to be used in the golf swing, the key is training them in an effective manner, for example there is no point being able to bench press a heavy weight if your a golfer.

Going to the gym daily is not something I would recommend unless you are training a different muscle group every night, however I admire that dedication.
