Is anyone sponsored? If so, by who and what do you get? I'm trying to get some stuff since i'm going to play in college this year.

I believe that's against the rules. You can't be "sponsored" per se. You can get free stuff (I believe), but you often have to hide the logos and you certainly can't have any sort of contract.

IIRC.

If you are on a top level college team more than likely that team will have a deal with some manufacturer or another. On the mini-tours I play, I've heard of guys simply sending in their golf resumes to manufacturers and most of the time they get a deal. Nothing free, but a substantial discount.

Callaway XHot Pro 15* 3Wood w/Project X 6.5

You can't get free stuff while you are on a collegiate team. It's against NCAA rules. It prevents rich alum/boosters from swaying a potential recruit from joining the college. The NCAA is VERY strict on what you can and can't recieve.

Good example is Reggie Bush. He's in hot water for all the "free" stuff he got while at USC.

IF your school..and most D1 schools and even D2 schools have deals with vendors....they'll provide you with a discount or equipment to use for play.

it's not a "sponsor" deal b/c the school's the sponsored entity. if what you said above were true, then you wouldn't see "team shoes." gifts are things like watches..cars..etc. but equipment to use for the season is provided if your school has a deal and is 1 of the top golf schools.

As Yoshi said, equipment isn't part of that deal. You can get golf equipment if you're on the golf team. You can't get a sports car or sign a contract with an equipment manufacturer.

I should have clarified my statement a little more. What I meant was outside of school endorsed/owned equipment, you can't get anything for free :)

In short... sponsorship typically means money and or extra benefits. Hypothetically if Callaway came to you and offered you money, clubs, apparal, expense account, etc... you lose your amateur status and no longer can play college golf.

The only kind of equipment and or apparal etc you can receive is a predetermined agreement between your school and said vendor.

In theory... you cant even accept a free round of golf at a local club.

So is anyone here sponsored? I know there's some low handicappers here.

If you are tell us a little about it. Maybe your handicap when you got sponsored, age, resume (tournaments etc), who sponsors you, what exactly that entails (free clubs, etc), and anything else.

You don't get sponsored when you hit a handicap. You have to turn pro, and there are a lot of pros - a LOT of pros - without any real sponsorship at all.

I'm closing this thread - and merging it with a pre-existing one. Anyone can PM me if they can think of a legit reason to re-open it.
