Quite a nice swing. Noticed a few things though. I would assume you have problems with a slice or pull as you seem to come out-to-in in the downswing. Your swing is also very vertical, and your arms are very high at the top of the backswing. Try flattening out your swing plane, and shortening your backswing, which is coming over the top. This should improve your contact, and help to lessen any other errors.

I'm sure others will do a better job though.

you've got a super powerful swing but there are a few things i can see to that could help you out.

First, try to not take your backswing so far. It's going way past parallel.

Second, try slowing everything down. You'll get more control.

Also, let me say this : nice home practice net setup!

What's with taking your club over your head? Never seen that before? I paused it at the top and it's not a good position. Try taking it more over your shoulder, slowing it down just a bit, and you'll have a nice swing. Your swing has a lot of potential to be really good. You do some good things well from what I can see here. It looks like you transfer your weight pretty well and your hips rotate pretty nicely.

Don't try killing the ball, try making an 80% swing, at the top of your backswing your club is almost pointing at the ground and not the target, that alone will kill your accuracy. your left arm in your backswing is covering your mouth, get it under your chin insted. That will help with the over the top also don't let your left arm break down in your backswing, try to keep it straight. Right elbow closer to your body like you have a towel under your arm pit that you don't want to drop in your backswing. square your left shoulder up at address, It's way above your right one, thats how your address position should look for your driver only and not your other clubs. Your also swaying a little in your swing. hope that helps.

Your backswing takes a pretty bad path up. Like someone else said, you need to swing a little more over your shoulder aka flatter. It looks like you're trying to smash the ball. Concentrate on getting a better rhythm and balance. You fall forward after your swings it looked like.

Hey thanks everybody for all the comments and tips. I'm working on this new exercise a pro in canada told me about. I put two towels rolled up under each arm (armpit) and take like half swings. This keeps my arms tucked in closer to my body, and also keeps the backswing from going all the way around my body. I'll try to put up a vid either tomorrow or sometime next week when i get back in town. And again thanks for all the support!!!

First off...SLOW DOWN! You lose your balance way too often and if you slow down you'll have the same if not more distance and a lot more control. Grip the club very loosely. I know this sounds crazy, but you shouldn't have one white knuckle. Even if you think your gripping lightly and you have a white knuckle, you're still gripping too tightly. This will allow the club head to turn over naturally, which will cause a straight shot or draw. Next...you're swing is huge. Don't stretch out so far because then you become all...JELL-O ee is the only 'word' I can think of and will cause you to lose a lot of distance and you won’t be able to shape shots as easily because it will slice or hook every time. I’m sure you pull or slice your irons and have a wicked slice with your driver. All you need to do is rotate your left shoulder + arm back until you can feel your bicep on your pec then think about throwing the club out and keep your head and wrists behind the ball to a certain degree. If your wrists are ahead of the ball the clubface will be wide open. You have to maintain a compact swing, which is where the real power comes from. Try to feel as relaxed as possible bring the club up and think smooth and fluid, not power. Also when you stretch that far out you get a lot of lateral movement (side to side), which will cause slices and skulled shots. You're head should stay almost perfectly still over the ball, but will shift a bit on your downswing. If you look at a pro's head during the backswing...it doesn't move a fraction of an inch. If you have any questions just PM me. Sorry if it seemes like I'm tearing your swing apart but I'm not, just saying what I see. Hope I helped.

Well actually I hit all my clubs dead straight. The only shots I try to work are tight spots under trees when i need to draw or fade the ball to get out and still gain some yardage. I have been taking in all these suggestions and my swing is only going back to parallel maybe an inch or two more, and now I can't get the distance. Keeping my left arm straight and keeping my arms tucked in hasn't helped me one bit. I'm actually wondering why i ever changed. I usually carry my driver about 260-275 average and every once in a while get the big 300 yard shot. Since I changed i'm only getting like 230-240 and not straight. its all over the place. Is it really that bad if my swing doesn't look good and the ball goes perfect? (well perfect enough for me)

Well then if that's the case. Start keeping track of all your Putts, chips, up and downs, fairways, GIR's and Sandys. Go to the Golfdigest.com stat tracker and see where your lacking. I'm a six handicap on the tracker and my long game is a -3 and my short game is 12. It just shows you what to work on because if your hitting everything straight don't change a thing! Believe me it really opens your eyes when you start seeing how many putts and chips you have in a round. Anyways...are you even struggling with anything long game wise? And look at John Daly, he goes waaay past parallel and still hits a straight bomb. Like I said, if it works don't change it but figure out where your game is lacking and then ask for advice because it sounds like you don't really need any swing advice, but just tips to sharpen your game.

Ok, first. You take your swing too far out on the way up. Make it less of an arm swing and make it more shoulders.
Second, you come way past parallel if you shorten it up you have move control, therefore better contact.
Third, on your way down you come way over the top. I used to have the same problem. To fix this problem try throwing your right elbow into the side of your body.

The dangers of video lesson on the internet. Your backswing, especially your takeaway, is very unorthodox. You got a lot of tips from everyone based on a more conventional swing. This is guaranteed to mess things up for you. You've gone from using your natural ability to hit the ball to too much thinking. You have to decide whether you want to develop a swing to last your for life of just go with what you got. However, changing to a more coventional swing is going to come with some growing pains.

I believe 100% that you must get worse before you get better. I had a bunch of swing tweaks a couple months ago and for a while I thought I would never get my game back and then I just worked hard at the range and I've improved my long game greatly. But do the golf digest thing because if your long game is good, no offense, but your short game must need a lot of work if your crushing the ball but have a 16 handicap.

alright thanks everybody. and yes my problem is my short game. i can chip good from anywhere around the green. sand traps give me trouble sometimes but just judging the distance where i want it to land not getting out. putting...i usually average a 2 or 3 putt. but my main problem is from 100 yards in. i don't have any wedge other than my pw that came with the set and my 68 degree i use for the sand. so i really have to judge every shot inside 100 yards with my pw and i end up all over the place trying to open my face or take a real light swing.

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
