Has anybody played 18 holes with only one club? I have seen the pros play 18 holes with a 5 iron on TV.

I would consider trying this someday, you will certainly learn to hit half and partial shots.

I have a friend who shot an 87 using only his pitching wedge...

Pretty amazing I think but then again he did shoot a 63 trying out for our HS golf team in 9th grade some 5 years or so ago.

1 club just isn't enough... but a 3-club tourney would be loads of fun.

Our coach used to make us play 3-club, 3-hole sets all the time (way back in the day when I played JV in HS).
My Clubs: Callaway FT-i Tour LCG 9.5° w/ Matrix Ozik Xcon 6 stiff; Sonartec GS Tour 14° w/ Graphite Design Red Ice 70 stiff; Adams Idea Pro 2h(18°) & 3h(20°) w/ Aldila VS Proto 80 stiff; Adams Idea Pro Forged 4-PW w/ TT Black Gold stiff; Cleveland CG12 DSG RTG 52°-10° & 58°-10°; Odyssey...

After my round on Monday I thought to myself that I would have probably shot better using just a 7 iron from tee to green. Greed got the best of me.
If I got to play more often I would definately try the one club game.

I practiced opening up my 5 iron last night to see how high I could chip with it off the green.

I couldn't imagine hitting out of a greenside bunker with a 5 iron, lol.

I was thinking the same thing last night! I will have to practice this shot when I get a chance. I did open up the club face and get the ball 3 feet off the ground. I might discover that I will have to play backwards out of the lower lip of the sand trap and know that I have to avoid the sand or else I will be penalized at least two strokes. I might have to change my strategy with a well bunker holes to play short of the hole and play for a up and down.

I think I've posted about it elsewhere, but yeah, I played a tournament in February called the "Ironman" and it was a best ball one club tourney. I used a 5 wood and shot not too far off my normal score: 105.

I sank a couple amazing long puts with that 5 wood!

The most popular choice for the day appeared to be 7 iron though.

If I were to try a one club round, it would be the 7 iron. Like the previously mentioned Tin Cup, I never miss with the 7 iron.
That being said, I have invested way too much money in my clubs to leave them at home for even one day.

On the web there is a one club golf tournament and you can choose which club you want to play 18 holes with, most choose either a 5 or 6 iron. Some trick they shared is to put a divot or sand mount between the ball and your club and when you hit your tee shots your ball does not get any spin and rolls along ways.

The best I've done is play a couple of holes with my 7 iron, usually out of frustration. This thread has got me to thinking though. I might try to play a round with only my 7 iron and my hybrid in the near future. It should be a good mix of clubs, plus it will give me a reason to walk the course, something that I've not done in a long time.

I'd give it a go with either a 6 iron or 7 seven iron. I tend to hit my seven around 160-170yrds so not a bad distance, plus it can be quite handy around the greens. Might struggle on par 3s though!

My home course has too many long forced carries so I would have to use a 2 or 3 hybrid. I don't carry a 2 or 3 iron.

If forced carries were not an issue, I would use my 6 iron.
