I have a set of Top-Flite irons that I've played hard all year. I've worn out three gloves and have played probably 50 rounds of golf.

I've having issues as of late with my hand slipping on the grips or when I try to swing harder than normal. I had also arrived at the idea that I'm blowing through gloves because of the grips on the club. So I have two questions, firstly what would you reccomend and secondly what should I expect to pay to have them installed?

Grips are a highly personal choice in golf so there isn't really a right or wrong choice. I recently just got some Golf Pride - Tour Velvets put on my irons, and they're good for me. Go to a golf store and put your hands on a few types. Make sure you get the right size, feel, stickiness, and look for YOURSELF. As for Tour Velvets (one of the most popular grips), I paid $2.79/grip, and $3.00/grip to install. So iron set costed me $40.

I've worn out three gloves and have played probably 50 rounds of golf.

That's not that bad at all for gloves, they usually last 15-20 rounds avg, but if your hands are slipping now then your grips are wearing down. I don't mind the Lamkin grips some of them are very nice i find. Pricing isn't half bad either.

The stock rubber grips that came on my Adams were tearing my hands up even with gloves so I switched to some Winn G8's. They are the soft squishy type of rubber but still give you good grip and control. I think they were 3 bucks a piece including installation at golf galaxy. I also had my backup set of Eye 2's gripped with those, I'm very happy.

Im quite fond of the old Tour Velvet, fitted as standard to most clubs. Recently regripped my own clubs for £2.50 a grip. They are fairly grippy and quite soft.

If I played more often and was willing to spend more money, I would definitely go for Golf Pride Decades. A great combination of a corded upper grip, and rubber lower grip. Lamkin crosslines are also pretty good, though slightly on the more expensive side.

I must say, I'm not a fan of Winn grips. I like a more solid feel.

As an earlier posted suggested, go to a golf shop and try a variety of different grips to see if you like one.

I used to play with half cord grips but switched to Winn grips...slightly oversized. I love the feel.

Good Luck and let us know what you got.

Cheers,
Eric

As you can see, grip preference is pretty individualized. I like change, so I have tried a lot of grips over the years. At this point, I have never been happier with a grip then the Golf Pride Multi-compound Decade. Wow, they have a great combination of no-slip grip and soft feel. To me its the best grip out there.

I haven't tried too many of the newer grips but my old staples are still the ones that I'd go with over and over again: Golf Pride Tour Velvet Cords. I can easily get two years of golf from these fine grips. They really do well in wet conditions (humidity here is off the charts sometimes, too).

The plain Tour Velvet is the best deal of any grip in golf in my opion....if you just want a nice tacky non-cord grip that will last you a year.

Around here the prices in the shops are $4-$5 for the Tour Velvet and $7-$8 for the corded version. Installation is $1-$2 per club.

I use the regular tour velvet grips and i like them alot, i will probably use them again when i need to.

Not sure about using the corded velvets, they might be too rough for me. What exactly are the cords in the grips?

I use the regular tour velvet grips and i like them alot, i will probably use them again when i need to.

The grip is made very different, yet the final product looks very simular.

There is a rubber underlayer covered by a layer of polyester cord which is oriented lengthwise on the grip. This layer is covered with the normal feeling Tour Velvet magic material which is then buffed down slightly to expose the cords. The end result is simply a thing of beauty which works flawlessly, in my opinion. The cord is so easy to grip and keeps slippage to a minimum....even when wet (the real beauty of them). If you play in hot and humid conditions like we do around here they are virtually a must. As stated, they also seem to last longer.

I like the Winn Xi7. Soft, yet firm enough, and it grips better if it gets a little wet.

Anybody have experience with tacki mac, Avon, or Golfsmith grips. Is it a matter of you get what you pay for, or are the comparable to golf pride or lamkin?

There are way too many grip choices for me to keep up with. So I just play Tour Velvets. Everyone everywhere keeps them in stock. You never ever have to worry about..."well I have 11 of these grips and if you come back next week I can have 2 more. My shipments come on Tuesday and.....". Just give me Velvets. And a Lamkin Green Dual Durometer for my driver, it's a mojo thang.
