Are you able to stop your swing when you've already started because you get distracted somehow? (I know that it is within the rules, I am asking if you are physically capable of stopping once you get started) I ask this because for whatever reason I am never able to and wanted to know if anyone else has this problem.

Examples:

You are at the top of your swing and you hear something in the distance that throws your concentration off. Can you stop and start over?

From the fairway as you take the club back along the ground it get hung up on some grass and throws off your whole rhythm.

You just feel uncomfortable over a shot, but can't get yourself to stop and adjust to get comfortable.

Usually, the first one doesn't bother me and I can get through it. The second one happens every once in a while and the whole time I am thinking "this is going to be bad". The third one happend a month ago where I was on a tee box and am set up to the ball. I had been hitting driver good all day. I address the ball and think to myself "this doesn't feel right, I am too close to the ball, I am not lined up right, this ball is going way left". Sure enough I just swing away and the ball goes way left.

Does this happen to you, or am I the only idiot who can't do it?

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Hearing something rarely bothers me. I can usually tune out noises on my shots, but every so often I'll hear something or see something on my downswing that just screws me over.

I know exactly what you're talking about with the general feeling of discomfort over a shot. I have a habit of not resetting myself when I get it, especially when I'm playing with my friends because they get on me about taking a long time to hit the ball in the first place, and the last thing I want to do is step back and restart my whole routine and piss them off.

I take it back slow, kinda like a Sam Snead type of thing. So I can stop it. I'm pretty much along the same lines as you. Easier to do when there is a loud noise or shadow. Usually can do it if the take away feels awful or is hindered. But I'm least likely to listen to that noise in my head that says "THIS IS A NO GO YOU IDIOT....REPEAT NO GO!"

On the rare ocassions I have been able to stop in reaction to the latter situation, it seems I'm able to ultra, super refocus (if that makes sense?)and hit an awesome shot. Then I get in the cart going, "yeah I knew I should have done that, did you guys see that?" I just need to make that happen more often, without overdoing the times I do it.
