Well played Bethpage Black this past week and this rough was nothing I could swing through. Tried closing my face and having a strong left hand grip but the face still opened up. Ended up doing check swings and getting the ball up and out. What are some techniques to be used in the heavy rough.

Side question: If your ball was on the green but our putt rolls off the green onto the fringe and you putt out of the fringe, do you count towards your putts?

my home course (olympic club in san francisco) also has very thick rough and though i have played in it my whole life i still try to remember some things while hittin shots in the rough,

1st- open the club face slightly (rough tends to close through impact)
2nd- take your normal swing : you should never try to adjust your swing, just the speed not the overall shape

I would say the same as the others and play the ball slightly back in your stance also.

When I'm in some nasty rough I usually open up the clubface and put the ball back in my stance.

Take the club on a more steep path. Open the clubface. Off back heel.

Those are my keys. I know some rough at some courses are just crazy though.

But why were you closing your club face?
