My dad and I playing as 2 today, so we get paired with 2 gentlemen before the round. We were already at the teebox, so when they pull up, they look at me and you can tell they were thinking, "Oh great, a kid."So i outdrive them both, stick an 8 iron to 6 feet and slam the putt in the hole. The look on their faces after the first hole was great.

Both great guys, had a good time playing with them.

And today was the first day in 2 months that we could actually walk! It wasnt 105 degrees plus humidity. It never got above 80 today, and we got about 30 seconds of light rain. Perfect day for golf.

I've seen far too many people get mad about losing, not just by kids, but anybody. It's hard to watch when you're not even playing a competitve game against them, just enjoying a relaxing round.

I know what you mean. I get put with groups of three a lot and they're usually good guys, but they do seem reluctant to play with a 17 year old when I meet them on the tee box. I always make sure I rip my first drive extra far to let 'em know what's up.

The course isn't that great so a lot of not so great golfers go there and more often than not I get asked how long I drive the ball. That's always a nice self-esteem boost.

I'm 16 and most people love to play with me as a kid, they don't seem to mind. Especially since most of the people that I get paired up with can't break 100, so yeah.

You guys seem to get paired with some decent players. How come I always get stuck with people who shoot 110+? I mean, most of the time the people are nice, so I don't HATE playing with them, I just wish for once I could meet up with someone around my skill level.

When I first started playing golf this summer, I was using a 430 CC driver made by Maltby (Or GolfWorks), a small company in Ohio, and hitting at a max of 230-235.

Now, three months later, I'm using a Titleist 907D1 and my form/club head speed on my drivers has improved drastically.

So we're at a range and some friends who, shall I say, think they're a lot more than they are, see me and don't realize the different swing/driver. After a while of me hitting some wedge shots, they challenge me to a driving contest (why the hell driving distance is so important to kids is something that I just don't understand, other than pure ego).

I hit it right down the damn middle, it literally flies over the 250 sign on the fly, and rolls to the fence (not sure how long, probably 285 or 290). One of my best drives with drive range balls. I hit the thing, look at them while they're watching it, and put my driver away and go back to what I was working on. Only problem? We all start hitting iron shots and with my Cobra's they start ripping me a new one...but it was fun for a while.

I'm not "old" but I'm older than the OP and a couple of the others...what I can say about getting paired up with people I don't know is this: As long as they're nice, I don't care whether they shoot 65 or 165.

In my mind, it's always been me (and my playing partners) against the course. I don't play for money and I'm not good enough to play for competition, really. So me and my friends always cheered each other on, hoping at least one of us parred each hole.

I've got no problem playing with teens, kids, really old guys, Martians -- doesn't matter to me. Just show reasonable etiquette, don't act like I'm beneath you, don't act like an idiot after a bad shot, and we'll probably get along great. Age is irrelevant; attitude is extremely relevant.

    • I did not realize that, I was thinking a more traditional golf club.
    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
