I hit my irons and driver pretty good most of the time but I cant hit a hybrid or fairway wood off the deck to save my life. When I do hit my 3 wood it doesnt get very high but I get good distance and straight flight.I usually leave it in the bag though because of misshits .

One thing I noticed on my practice swings with the 3 wood is the bottom of the swing is near my back foot. This is the only club I do this with.

What is causing this..

most likely causes of your mishits are ball position and stance.

You are likely to close to the ball and the ball is probably do far forward. Play it a little ahead of center and stand a little further back. I dont think it is necessary to think "swing flatter" because the shaft length should do that naturally. If it isnt, your grip is likely incorrect.

Being the second longest club in the bag, 3-wood ball placement should be just off your left heel (for righty), which means that spot is approximately the bottom of your swing.

I have a hunch that you're hitting just the half or two third upper portion of the ball with your 3-wood. This is because the club impacts the ball on the upswing. If the club face is squared at impact the ball would still go straight, just not high. You need to create flatter and descending swing to the ball when using 3-wood. Don't hesitate to make a very thin divot although I myself find it tough to create one. Ingrain that thought of creating divot and you'll hit the ball solidly with your 3-wood. Hope that helps.
