Ok, so long story - I hate my driver. Don't feel like explaining the whole thing, but I'd like a new one.

Which one do you prefer and why?

I'd prefer a TaylorMade, but a Titleist will do. No other brands.

I like the idea of movable weights as well.

Flop,
It seems like every Sunday night you have a new bout about a club you do not like. You seem to be going crazy buying clubs. I think if I am correct, you just bought this one less than 2 months ago. Im a club ho too, but I think you might want to slow down a bit. YOu have assembled a great bag at your age, and it has been fun watching you assemble it. But not too long ago, you were DYING for that driver and could not wait to get it, IIRC.

Flop,

I'd hate to say it, but let me do what I want, and I'll let you do what you want. I'm just going to take off my signature and not let anyone know if I get new clubs if I keep getting responses telling me what to and what not to do.

I'm not losing any $$ here. I just sell it and buy a new one for the same or less $$ than I got. If anything, I gain cash. The square shape and the noise has definately got to me. It sounds a feels the same as when I top one 10 yds and when I crush one 260. I want a driver with more feel, and less noise. Also, I'm not a fan of the square shape anymore. If anything, it's hurting me - I have no confidence in the thing.

go to the store have them check your swing on the machine and find what works best for your game. I personally like the Burner but it might not be the right club for your game.

You've had it 2 months? I'd say keep working on it, it might cost you nothing to change but if you change your clubs more often than your underwear then you'll never be able to learn the intracacies of them. That'll knock off those precious shots to get you into single figures.

I went from the sumo2 to my current driver and couldnt be happier. I was a little worried in the beginning about the possible lack of forgiveness but have actually been hitting the D2 better.

You were missing my point. I wasnt trying to get down on you or anything. Just that my hats off to you for putting together a great bag. I think you should give it some time and see how all these clubs come to form. Your still young and will grow into these clubs tremendously.

Too much $$ for a G10 and not interested in a G5. I can get all of the drivers I mentioned for pretty cheap.

I always thought the TaylorMade driver's felt great. I occasionally play my r580xd and I love it, even though it's 5 years old. I would try and not replace your clubs often, because from personal experience I am realizing how little equipment matters, and how important a proper, relaxed swing is. A good swing will hit any driver far and down the middle. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with whatever you choose!

If you hit the G5 or G10 better than anything you had ever hit in your life (if you gave it a honest shot) would you say the same thing? Would it be worth the extra money?

Lot's of choices out there.

I suppose that it depends as much, if not more, on the shaft than it does on which of these drivers you select. Solve that riddle and you'll be homefree.

I like the looks of the Titleist offerengs at address. I know that's vanity at a high level.....but there it is....my reasons for likeing them.

You've got some good sticks to pick from.

For what it's worth....a golfing buddy of mine is constantly switching out drivers and putters. We have a great local store, Bonaventure Golf, who accept trade ins and have a ton of used clubs to select from. He buys nearly new sticks for $200 when they are selling new for $350+. He'll game 'em a while and then sell to another buddy or trade 'em in if he sees something else he'd rather have. He was playing a nearly new FT5 w/ the blue Aldila shaft (whichever that one is) and killing the ball.

He was also stoking a putter that I haven't seen him play before.....an Odyssey steel inserted center shafted affair. He's a solid putter anyway, but this thing was helping him take it up a notch. Awesome lags and confident 8 footers in the jar. Again...I suspect...a nearly new club.

From your choices I'd say taylormade burner or the burner tour, no movable weights but my friends recommend it and i believe they're on sale at global golf.

That being said, why limit yourself to titleist or taylomade? There are several others you could try out:

1) Ping G10
2) Mizuno MP-600 (movable weights on tracks, so cool!)
3) Bobby Jones Workshop Edition Driver

Not necessarily in that order. Just try them out and dont worry they're not square and won't make those wierd noises.

Flop,

If I may, I'd like to give you some of my experience. I started playing less than two years ago and have gone through the following:

Taylormade 540
Cobra F Speed
Titleist 907D1
Titleist 905T

I would find quirks and things that I did not like until I got fitted for the right shaft. That's the one piece of advice I would give you. Find the shaft that suits you best and combine that with a driver head that will optimize performance. Believe it or not, it will be cheaper than buying something off the shelf.

FWIW, I bought my current driver head and shaft, separately, on ebay. I had gone through a fitting and knew it would be cheaper to purchase the components. I took them back to my fitter and he built my driver to exact specs, puring included. It costs me less than half of what it would have been had I gone to a store. That's my suggestion to you. This game is frustrating enough and being unhappy with your equipment only adds to it.

Good luck.

Flop, I thought you said you love your Sumo and you hit it dead straight?
BTW, if you like movable weights, perhaps you should also consider a Mizuno MP-600.
Of the ones you listed, I think Id go with the Titleist 907D1 or D2. Ive read nothing but rave reviews about that club. Besides, with the 909 coming out soon, you could probably get a 907 for cheap because a lot of people are going to think they have to have the newest Titleist driver. Best of luck with whatever you decide.
