Hi everyone. I have been a long time lurker and finally decided to join. Well, me and my friend took the Hibore XLS 9.5* out for a test drive yesterday. We were absolutely bombing this thing. If I did not already have a G10 (which I love as well) this club would be in my bag. He has an old Callaway ERC Fusion and wants to upgrade. Here's the deal: All our local stores have the XLS for $299 but there are alot of new ones on ebay with buy it now prices from $179-$210. Why? I know some people are scared of fakes on ebay, but these sellers have great feedback ratings and seem to be respectable. Should he buy from one of the local stores here or get one off ebay? Also, any opinions you have about the XLS will be appreciated. Thanks

Ebay Sellers do not rely on the profit margin that a chain store does. They do not carry the same overhead and can access far more people thus selling at a small percentage above cost.

Find a seller that has good feedback and will ensure authenticity. I have completely stocked my bag through ebay at about 60% of retail cost and everything registered just find on the respective manufacturers websites.

Buying clubs on ebay is safe as long as you use common sense. I can vouch for 3ballsgolf, global golf and rock bottom golf on ebay. I have bought from them all with no problems. If you want an even better deal, try the HiBore XL. Some people like it better than the XLS and you can find it for $100-150. I love mine.

I noticed the price drop on the XL. I have never hit one and neither has my golf buddy who is very interested in the XLS. Is it a 460cc? What did they change on the XLS?

Hibore xl description:
The Cleveland HiBORE XL driver features a special geometry that moves weight lower and deeper into the clubhead, optimizing the CG (center of gravity) location for ideal launch conditions. For maximum ball speed, the HiBore XL has a larger sweet spot compared to traditional large-volume drivers and, paired with the deep CG, its high MOI (moment of inertia) increases stability on off-center hits.
The result? Greater overall distance and tighter shot dispersion over the entire face.

Hibore Xls description: With Cleveland Golf's largest face ever — 17% larger than the HiBore XL — the XLS driver offers Full Face Performance, extended the hot zone across more of the face. You'll see more distance on your shots — even those mishits. A higher MOI (moment of inertia) provides maximum stability and control, and the crown plaque and "wings" help you easily set up at address

I would say that using common sense and verifying the feedback rating will get you a great club off ebay. Simple rule, if it looks to good to be true, it probably is. Check and double check, then check again before committing to a bid on a club.

As for the XLS, you'll see from my sig that I play one and I absolutely love it. I speak for the XL as I've never hit it, but the XLS is great! There is an excellent review here http://thesandtrap.com/equipment/clu..._driver_review that I highly recommend your friend read. I owned the Hibore prior to reading George's review and it helped me in settling into a comfort zone with mine.

Excellent choice!!!

Brick and Morter store's can't compete. They have a lease, pay to do inventory, electrical and sewage bill's, insurance, employee benefit's (if large enough), pay cashier's, customer service, display cost's, etc.

Ebay and some online stores, E-store's, don't have the overhead. The larger one's have a very small staff and warehouse, smaller one's work out of thier home's, garage's, storage facilities. They make thier money by underselling the B&M; store's and by quantity. A friend of a friend, I know I know, has a online stereo store and sells out of a rented storage space at 7% over his cost and shipping, which is still 10-20% lower than a stero shop/best buy.

Like other's said, check the seller's feedback, or if not on Ebay, store's like Rockbottom, 3Ballsgolf, TGW, Globalgolf etc are very reputable.

I cream for the sound of a well hard struck XLS driver, it's def one of the loudest drivers out there. If you hit it on the screws at 100mph+ sounds like you hit an empty wine bottle with an aluminum bat.

After about 3 nice wallup's my pant's get tight and I'm swinging 2 shafts thereafter

well, thats quite a disturbing thought!

i find it can actually be too loud sometimes, particularly in an enclosed driving range, the sound is amplified and it really does actually hurt your ears sometimes!

Almost all of the golf equipment in my bag was purchased off eBAY. Everything that I've purchased has been authentic. Both of my XLS HiBore Woods are phenomenal - long, straight, and just fun to hit. Got them both for a LOT less than retail prices for the reasons already stated (overhead, etc.). The XLS' have the Cleveland authenticity security marks on the head front (changes color when exposed to light to ensure it's legit).

All in all, I've been very happy with both my eBAY and Cleveland XLS Hi-Bore experiences.

    • It's been a little more than a year since I can last remember hitting golf balls and today I just got my second cortisone injection in 11 months. I thought maybe shortly after the first injection I was going to be able to start playing again with therapy but the pain while doing my backswing past halfway just didn't subside like just lifting my hands up in the air did. So today the Orthopedic surgeon put more in the backside of the shoulder than before to address the tendon more. I'm going to try therapy for another 3 months and if I  can't swing the club without pain then I think surgery is going to be my next option.
    • I was just down visiting family in southern California and we played a couple rounds of golf. I hit my ball into the deep rough near some tree's and my cousin's husband offered me his Sim 2 Rescue Hybrid to try out. And I felt the same way, wow! I loved it, it also had a Pure DTX grip on it which I loved. As soon as I got back home, I ended up buying two used Calloway Rogue X hybrids, 3 and 5. So far I've only tested them out at the range, but I love them. They're much more forgiving than irons for me.
