anything extremely out of the ordinary happen while you were playing? One day while i was working it rained and there was a shotgun start staff tournament thing for an autobody shop in town and I went out to tell some groups that they had to go back to the first hole for a minute and while i was driving my cart i had seen a fox soaking wet rolling through the sand trying to dry off.

Speaking of foxes, one time we were playing this course that ran up against some woods. On one hole after we hit our drives, foxes ran out of the woods, grabbed our golf balls, and ran away. Who knows what they were doing with them.

Common occurence at our club. Same with squirrels. One spring they found a tree with a ridiculous number of balls in it. There is also a badger on our course behind this one par 3. If i ever hit it over the green I don't go looking for it lol.

One guy who works grounds here that cuts the rough whenever he runs over golf balls by accident he puts it back in the rough usually behind the green and puts the good half up. Fallen for it a lot. Not really a story but something funny atleast.

Me and a couple of my buddies were playing at a local course down here in Florida. One guy says to the other as he is getting ready to tee off, 'hey don't hit those birds over there'. There were a couple of sandhill cranes (big birds) and their chicks along with a stray egret, which were about 100 yards from the tee box and off to the left.

Our buddy hooks a low line drive and nails the egret knocking it to the ground. We were all stunned, including the bird, who then struggles to get to it's feet with what appeared to be a broken wing. In it's dazed and confused state, the egret stumbles too close to the crane chicks and one of the adult cranes grabs the egret with it's beak and bodyslams the egret to the ground. Both adult cranes take turns doing this a few times, while we watched in horror.

Then the egret regains enough sense to stumble the other way, across the fairway towards the woods on the right side. We watch this poor bird struggle to get to safety to suffer in peace. Then the first guy says to the guy who just teed off, 'hey, you need to go over there and kill that bird to put it out of it's misery'. Of course our buddy then freaks out.

Every time we play that course now, when our buddy gets ready to tee off on that same hole, we'll make bird noises in the background.

A couple weeks ago our group had just finished our scramble and we were comparing scores. We were going to put our clubs back in the cars and then go sit on the veranda and have a couple drinks and talk about our rounds. Well on the way to drop the clubs off at the car we all watched as a gentleman who was hitting balls on the range collapsed. A couple of my friends jumped up and ended up giving him mouth to mouth. He ended up dying before the ambulance got there. The medic shocked him about 15 times and he never came to. It was surreal. Very sad, his wife was right there too. I guess this is not a "good" golf story, but it was something that you dont come across very often.

One of our local tracks has breeding pair of fox and the male only has 3 legs! He's chased us away from the pair's den more than once!

Same course: Walking into the clubhouse between 9s for a drink and see a 20lb racoon standing on top of the trash container. With one hand, he's opening up the retractable 'trash in' flap and with the other fishing around looking for food. I walk to about 10' from the trash container, he looks up and me for about a second and gets back to business. I gave him a little space but still walked within 5' of him! Same course: One hole has woods right and not much left. We catch a glimpse of a hawk coming from the left and decending as we're walking the fairway. Hawk gets lower and lower, crosses the fairway about 20' in front of us and scoops up a squirrel on the fly then straight up into the tall oaks on the right! Love animals on golf courses! dave

Playing in Central California with my wife, we saw what we thought was a tree branch on the green as we teed of on a par 3. My ball rolled within about 3 feet, and my wife's almost hit it on the fly, hopping over it. When we got to the green, we saw that it was a very large rattle snake! Needless to say, we did not go ball hunting off the fairway for the rest of the round.

That's the ONE advantage to living here in New England ... very few venomous snakes ... and not ever in populated areas, only in heavily wood areas ...

My sis and bro-in-law live in Maui. On a visit, we played Kapalua Int'l (home of the Izusu tourney at the time) Orange Course (IIRC). We come up to a par-3 with the ocean as the backdrop but looking directly into the glare of the sun reflecting off the ocean.

Bro-in-law hits. Straight for the pin, but we don't see it land due to being blinded by the sun's glare. I hit. Straight at the pin and well-struck. The ladies tee was directly below us and only about a 20 yard advantage. My sis hits. Beautiful shot, right at the pin.

As we drive down nearer the green, we can now see all three balls. One is short in the trap on a direct line to the pin. A second is in a back trap and probably flew right over the pin. One came to rest about 2" from the hole.

As we exited our carts, all three of us said at exactly the same time. "That's probably ME by the pin!"

Nobody wanted to relinquish the 2" kick-in birdie so we all walk onto the green kind of pushing and shoving to get ahead of one another to be the first to get to MY ball!

After a quick ID, it's my sister's ball!!! I'm short in bunker, bro-in-law off the back! She taps in for birdie and we move to the next tee.

On next tee: After computing scores and factoring in the birdie, bro-in-law declares that she must now play from the MENS' tees because she's up on him by THREE!!!

I need to get back there someday!

lol, the worst I've seen in Canada was a garter snake. mind you the badger behind 5 scares the shit out of me.

No animals in this one. Early one Saturday morning we were teeing off on the old Tropicana course in Las Vegas. My friend Jack had been partying all night and showed up just in time to tee off. He tees it up and lets it rip. He hits a low burner left into the Ladies Tee marker. It bounces straight back, Jack catches it left handed on the fly and re-tees.

There is a bobcat that lives on the course that I see some times. Also last sunday there was a mountain lion sighting on the course.

I saw a fox today about 50 yards away. I have also seen hawks with live trout in their claws, owls, wood peckers, a lady peeing in the bushes,

I've been inches from foxes and moose numerous times in the past.

But last year in a tournament my friend hit 3-iron off the tee on a short par 4, and it landed in a spruce tree maybe 30-40 feet up in the air. He then proceeded to climb the tree to get his ball.

For a second I thought you were saying you had seen those animals in a hawks claws untill i saw the lady peeing then I realized maybe not. And for the guy from alaska, the moose didnt charge you/run away?

The moose was eating, and my friend dared me to sneak up behind it and he took a picture, then I ran as fast as I can, luckily the moose didn't hear me.

      I would recommend spending some time at the range and film your swing. You can post it in the Member Swings thread. At the range, you can figure out how to control the driver a bit more. We can offer some pointers once you post in the Member Swings section.

      With the H4 or the watch, you tag the club before hitting by putting the tag next to the device. The tag is on the club butt end. After a round, you don’t really think about it too much. You just do it. I don’t know how far you are from @phillyk, but he may know an instructor in your area.

      So the biggest issue right now is marrying the hands down with an athletic turn. I can get stuck not turning. Things get interesting from there.

      Hi everybody!  I am new to the golf game. I have taken some lessons and got fitted for clubs a couple of months ago. I usually score between 110-120 for 18 holes.  I bought a Stealth driver last year and have been hitting consistently with it 210-230 yds on the simulator. But when I take it out on the course, every drive is a severe slice!  I played 18 holes yesterday at the club where I belong. I removed the driver from my bag and used the 5 iron to drive with. I hit straight 16 out of 18 drives, 180 - 200 yds. I used the 5i - putter for the rest of my game.  I ended the day with a 92. Question: Does it make sense for me to continue playing with irons only until I get further along in my game before I reintroduce the Driver and woods again? Or should I continue to struggle with the Driver and woods and shoot in the 100’s again? To me it’s a no brainer, but for those more advanced I am interested to get feedback.
