Hi, after every practice, my right wrist (I'm right handed) gets very painful at the joints for a few days, it can get quite annoying sometimes that it gets painful even while making a turn while driving the car.

Do you experience that? What are the reasons behind it?

I am not sure, but I think maybe I am not finishing my swing properly, so the middle and 4th fingers are kind of slowing the club as I finish my turn?

The occasional wrist pain I get is usually in my left wrist.

It is usually something that comes from not stretching well and warming up properly (for me, at least).

I have a neoprene wrap that I put on my wrist on the way to golf. It gets the joint heated up a bit. I don't play with it on there as it impedes my swing...but the "pre-heating" seems to help.

Good luck.....the aches and pains can be maddening at times.

Thanks Dub!

Well I usually do a routine of about 10 mins warmup and stretching, it includes the wrists.

I will give it a try with the neoprene wrap. And also watch my swing finish more properly, to see if any change will come up.

I have got to do a better job of preparing for rounds.

I'll show up just in time to putt a couple and then head off to the tee box.

I need to allow way more time for stretching.

I was reminded of this on Monday. Showed up for a practice round...solo playing...just wanted to get out there and work on some things before a round with buddies the following morning on a tough course.

The starter tells me it's gonna be "now or never" and points to several groups stacking up near the first tee.

I rush over and hit a drive without stretching. I rush through the first two holes to get ahead of everyone and then begin playing three balls and working on my game.

I was reminded of my stupidity and haste on the 16th hole par 5. I had been feeling a pain underneath my right shoulder blade most of the round. Never had any issues in this area before. By the time I reached the green I was hurting. I just practiced putting only the last couple of holes...staying ahead of the course and getting used to a new flatstick.

Early the next morning I make the decision halfway to the course that I can't play.....the pain was still there only 5 times worse. Had to wimp out and text my buddies that I was not playing....felt like a heel.

It has taken much Advil, stretching and rest to get past it.

In the future, I'll spend the time to stretch out everything well....before taking a swing.

    • Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.

    • I would not do anything until I met with an instructor and got your swing looked at. There are some obvious better club options out there though. Spend 50 bucks on a lesson, practice and start piecing together a bag that works for you. Enjoy the journey.
