I have the same problems as most of the pros. My index finger stings after the round. I see Tiger and Kenny Perry use some tape to cover up their finger. I tried using hockey tape and that made a mess. What is the best kind of tape to use for this?

I am not sure what they use. But I want to mention you should use a tape designed for use with skin. On another post I saw people using duct tape (and having problems with too much adhesion). The adhesive used on tapes designed for skin contact are somewhat special. They give good enough adhesion without leaving gooey mess or sticking to aggressively. Presumably they also don't have anything particularly bad for your skin in them. Each tape in the world has a somewhat unique formulation of adhesive (and backing) that makes it work great in its intended application, but probably does not work optimally in other applications.

I use bandaids or specialized medical foam tapes. I work for 3M and we make (and I get for free) Nexcare (TM) band aids which have a thicker than normal foam backing, and a medical foam tape called Microfoam (TM) which I suspect is hard to find. I think there are also fabric backed (not a soft backing) tapes designed for skin contact that would provide a tough protective layer.

Good catch. I was careful to not use Band-Aid(R) which is the trademark, but was tying to use a non-brand generic term.

Lately I have had a hard time buying plain old, skin colored bandages. Everything is a kid's design or some funky shape. I need a regular!

And of course lets not forget that you can interchange the tape case with limited edition case covers for only $49.95 more each.

I used athletic tape until I found some Golfer's Tape . It doesn't stick to the grip if the edge gets rolled over, and it doesn't leave a bunch of adhesive on your finger. All small annoyances, but for about the same price as athletic tape I don't have to be annoyed.

I dunno what kind of tape Tiger uses, but I've found that Speed Tape works really well. I think it's the same as the "Golfer's Tape" that the poster above mentioned. It can be found at most pro shops, and is a much better alternative to regular sports tape! hope this helps :)

whenever i use tape for anti friction stuff i use zinc oxide tape

I was in the army (brittish...hence a british link!) and was told to use that stuff to stop blisters...worked great. Some skin got ripped off my thumb and was very sore to swing a club. I used a plaster (band aid to you guys) and then zinc oxide tape to hold it firm. Fantastic stuff.

Tape and band-aids are messy.  Try using "Finger Grippers" by Prene Products.  They work great and you can use them again and again.  They provide protection, absorb shock, and support the knuckle joint and they won't diminish mobility.
