I'm gonna be in the Chula Vista area from 6-9 November & I'm looking to get a round in on Friday the 7th. Just about any time of day is good for me & I can travel a reasonable distance to play a decent track. I'm a 10 hcp playing more like a 15 due to a 3-month layoff for a bad back , but I will play with anyone that respects the game.

If interested, PM me or reply to this thread, thanks! --LBB

BUMP

My trip is still on & I'm still looking for a couple of people to join me (and possibly X-forged) for a round on Friday, 7 November. Still haven't decided on a course yet. --LBB

It's a hike from Chula Vista, but you could play Maderas Golf Club up in Poway. I played out there back in January and it was a fun course. The staff was very friendly and courteous. A friend was able to get us out there at a significant discount, so I would warn that it's pretty pricey.

In the bag:
Ping G5 Driver 9 degree, Ping G10 3-wood, Nike 3 hybrid, TaylorMade R9 Irons 4-AW, Cleveland CG15 56 and 60 degree wedges, Odyssey 2-ball blade putter

Thanks case! I don't mind the drive, but that

is a fairly steep fee. If I play solo, I might splurge for it. --LBB

OK--final bump on this one. Looking to play on 7 & 10 Nov (Friday & Monday). Saturday would be great, but I'm introducing my younger brothers to the game & wouldn't want to put anyone through that. Anyone is welcome to join me--just send a PM. Due to course maintenance schedules, I am looking at the following tracks:

Cross Creek
Eagle Crest
East Lake
The Vineyard
Red Hawk

Let me know if you have any thoughts on these courses. Thanks! --LBB

If you go to the Vineyards make sure to take lotsa bug spray with you.

I haven't played on eagle crest yet, but I heard it's not that nice of a course.

Golf is a game in which the ball always lies poorly and the player always lies well.

    • I kind of like this interpretation especially if you think about it the unplayable rule would probably put you in a better spot.  using back on the line releief.
    • I did not realize that, I was thinking a more traditional golf club.
    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
