Korean Amy Yang grabbed the Australian Master's trophy away from names like Karrie Webb and Laura Davies this past week. Although she led for the final three rounds the dramatic finale came down to a playoff with 22-year-old American Catherine Cartwright.

She is the first amateur to win an LET championship in 22 years.
Yang won't receive any money and the first place $$ goes to Cartwright who was there on an invite.

Two other amateurs finished in a top three position; Ruby Tseng, 17-years-old from Hawaii and 19-year-old Tiffany Joh.

The girls are just getting younger and younger.

I'll bet the LPGA/LET will be handing out exemptions.

Personally, I think it's great when an amateur wins. It always makes me think of what the great Bobby Jones accomplished.

There are quite a few great young women golfers floating around these days. I think the LPGA has tons of room for building a solid history and we are seeing some of that in action now. It could be that Amy Yang will be a part of that.

Great observation. Wie needs to get with the program and get herself a record. People will only remember her for a good record, not for making millions.

Only if she were looking to use golf as a stepping stone to an acting career or something would she be known for being rich. And even then, she ain't Paris Hilton rich, so... (Paris being the only person who is famous for being famous...).

And we've all seen Michelle in interviews. Acting IS NOT in her future.

I'm beginning to believe that Michelle Wie thinks she is entitled to what she has gotten (exemptions, big $$$). Without a win, that all may dry up.

Wie goes against Pressel next week at the Fields in Hawaii. Whereas Amy Yang won't be there I'm sure the two will meet up in the future.

In the Fields competition, my money is on Pressel. She is tuning up this week at the SBS and I'll bet she's gunning for Wie.

LOL!! Yeah, anytime they interview her, I change the channel. She doesn't seem very articulate at all, but hey, she's young. :-p
