Worth it? Not? Average price?

Saw some fake grass at a home show this weekend and it was pretty amazing. The company also does greens. Made me want one, but kind of hard to justify the cost...

I would absolutely love to have one.

That being said....I could never justify the cost to my wife.

How cool would it be to have something smoking over coals in the smoker while you sipped a cold brew and worked on your putting.

What are the price ranges on these things???? I suspect they are less than a swimming pool but more than a hot tub.

My grandparents are getting one in their backyard. the average price for the green and instillation is about $7,500 from a good company. But if you want to install it yourself it is about $1,500 to $3,000.

I want one too. I was looking at this companies website a few weeks ago.
They do awesome work, I just wonder how they handle the weather and how much they are.

I looked into this a few years ago. First you have to get it in shape, then work and upkeep involved is pretty intense. Over watering, underwater, fungus, mold, etc... All the things trained greenskeepers know how to deal with and do every day.

I wonder too. The guys I talked to at the show described pulling out at least 4" of soil and adding different layers of rock/gravel for support and drainage. It sounded like some pretty cool engineering.

Based on this thread, it sounds like the costs are all over the place..

Does a putting mat counts? A "true fake" putting green is too expensive

After all the work(daily).....all the new equipment....all the aggravation.....I'm afraid the results that would be a furry green that is very slow. I think it'd be so much maintenance.....

How can i build my own putting green?

I would look into both real grass and artifical putting greens. You don't want to spend the time caring for your putting green when you can be practicing putting.

Saw a thread about this on golfwrx.com forums where a guy built one. I'd hunt for that thread and maybe ask him about the process as his turned out looking quite nice.

The Mrs and I built our own 1000 sq ft L93 bent grass green. To do it right we used 28 yards of 80/20 mix soil and 3 lbs of seed.I brought a Mclanes 10 blade greens mower for 1400 bucks a good roller for 100 a cup hole cutter 150 and 4 cups and little flags another 100.We did all the work{28 yards is one hell of a dirt pile}and we kept the cost under 2500 bucks.

We're looking hard at installing an artificial green. They're awfully good these days and maintenance is next to nothing. The better ones will even hold a wedge shot.

One of my father's relatives (I'd like to say uncle) was head greenkeeper at a very well known golf course just outside London. He turned his front and back lawns into a putting green.

Totally useless but I thought it was cool.
