I was playing golf on Sunday and when I tried to pull the head cover off my driver and the head came along for the ride leaving the shaft behind. The clubhead just pulled right off the shaft.

That reminded me of another incident from a few years ago. I was hitting balls on the range before a round with my 3 metal and on it's final shot the club head broke free of the shaft and went flying down the range. Not unusual. However, later that day when I was playing the round I pulled out the 5 metal and lost the head on that one too.

I had a Callaway Great Big Bertha 2 wood that was a few weeks old, used that down the range and the head went careening off down towards the 100yrd marker!

Was at my local driving range about a month ago when a kid of about 14/15 next to me managed to break two one year old Taylor Made clubs with consecutive shots! I'm not too familiar with the TM range but they appeared to be pretty nice ones. He was scared about how he was going to break the news to his father!

I watched a group infront of us in a scramble tournament take off in their cart after the first tee. The driver's bag wasn't strapped in, and the bag crashed to the concrete cart path. The (human) driver's driver (club) head smacked the ground and broke from the shaft. Dude was PISSED.

Tangent: About 3 years ago, I was in my local golf store getting ready to check out, and there was a guy with his son (about 15 or 16) asking the person behind the counter to exchange a "defective club". It was a brand new Nike driver with a huge dent on the bottom of the club. From what I saw, the club face and shaft were fine. Not in any huge hurry, I stood back and smirked while the father tried to plead his case to the store manager. It couldn't have been more obvious that the kid yanked a drive OB, then used the club to vent his frustration on a rock/tee marker/ball washer/playing partner.
To his credit, the manager was diplomatic and said, "I suggest you take this up with Nike." I doubt that "Youth Rage" is covered under Nike's manufacturers warranty.

I was at the range one day, when I hit my 6 iron and the head just went flying off and down the range, got a lot of looks.

Another time I was mad at intentionally took my driver and swung it like a baseball bat at a club.

Another time I had a shot behind a tree with my 5 iron, I took the shot, but bent the shaft and then later on the Club broke when I took another shot.

I take it those were your Taylor's?

Same thing happened with my GBB woods from Callaway. Three of the shafts broke off very near the heads on my driver, 4 and Heavenwood. Not at the same time, but I had to laugh because the same thing happened to me. Standing in the fairway with about 180 to the green. Pulled the headcover to my Heavenwood and got the cover and the head with the shaft still in the bag! DOH!!!

The driver head broke off while my 12 y.o. was hitting balls with me at the range while visiting Gram and Gramps in FL. He was terrified! It was like, clink ... clink ... CLUNK!!! In case you aren't aware, 12 year olds can load 'em and hit 'em in a hurry! No problem, we'll get it fixed.

Callaway stood behind all the clubs and the shafts were replaced and the clubs shipped back to my home at no cost, no questions asked. Also, the 4 wood broke a SECOND time! This time I had it reshafted with a 'budget-brand' shaft. It's my son's weapon of choice from the fairway and he hits it a ton! As badly as he treats it, the club still works years later and the $30 shaft is still in it. Go figure.

Aside from the Callaway shaft issues, I've never broken a club or had a head come off ... knocking on desk.

Are you leaving your golf clubs in your car and letting it get hot? This sounds like you're overheating the clubs and letting the epoxy melt.

I've played with a friend of mine twice and both times, he has broken a club. First time he broke his driver when he topped the hell out of his drive and somehow that ended up seperating the top of the head with the face of the club. Second time was his 3 wood. He hit his shot and then while waiting for the others to hit their shots, he was leaning on his 3 wood and it just snapped .

Callaway's does, however.

Speaking of breaking clubs, my lil brother has broken two of my drivers at my expense. So needless to say i bought him a 20 dollar burner bubble @ the local shop so he could quit breaking my drivers.

I've broken 4 while swinging them at the golf ball. I broke an aging 1-iron shaft as a beginner simply by taking a divot with my shot. In recent years I've broken the shafts of two 3-irons when I made contact with the ball. Overuse caused it in the first case and faulty manufacture in the second case. I once snapped the shaft on a 4-iron. I hit the ball very well but the club simply snapped on the follow through when it struck the tree I was standing under.

My son has a tad bit of a temper when he does poorly. He threw his pitching wedge a good 40 yards towards the cart. It hit the cart and went another 10 yards. Something about throwing a club that i just spent the motherload on taking the chance that it snaps in two. I have however hit my club on the ground in anger. It really stinks when you do that after a rainy day. Mud comes flying up all over you irritating you more than you originally were. It's just not worth it. Mam o' Man..I love golf.

I've broken... 5 clubs; 3 drivers, a 6 iron and a putter.

For some reason a driver doesn't endure more than 1 1/2 years with me. The 6 iron was a pretty darn old one and the putter as actualy funny: me and my friend where puting on the putting green and it wasn't my time so I just stood there, and the shaft started benting, when I noticed it, it had already over bent and broke.I fell over the puitter and everybody started laughing

Yep. My playing partner mentioned that to me. I also thought about my last three or four range sessions when I was hitting the club so poorly. I probably hit 60% of those balls with my driver. The ball was clanging off the top, bottom edge, and a lot near the heel. I was in an awful funk. That probably didn't help. On the bright side, I have been wanting to get fitted for a new driver.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
