Do you buy The Latest Greatest, or do you wait?

Just curious how the majority thinks on this matter.

When the latest gear comes out (e.g. this year's Callaway X460, Taylor Made's R7 425/460, Titleist 735CM irons, etc), do you jump on it and buy immediately (if you're looking), or do you tend to wait a year until the prices come down?

Personally, I find myself waiting until prices come down a bit. For instance, with the Titleist 735CM's out right now, I can get the 704CB's for a nice price at various discount retailers. And as soon as the Callaway X460 hits the stores, the BB 454 will drop its price as well.

Just wondering if the gearheads out there are really so into the newest equipment that they're willing to pay a premium for something that'll be on sale in less than a year.

If I am looking for the a club I'll shop around for the best deal but I have some pretty good connections for equipment so that helps.

The way I look at it, if the club really pushes my buttons then I want it NOW

Actually, the BB 454 is their "cheapie" line and the X460 their upper tier line. You won't see much of a drop there.

The 704s are cheaper because the 775s will replace them soon, not because the 735s are out. To answer the question, I buy the "latest greatest" if it will benefit my game. If not, I stick with what I have.

Since I've been out of college (over 8 years ago), I have bought one brand new club. My hybrid...which I used my winnings from the club championship for. I usually buy clubs used/2nd hand.

College was nice because we got a really good discount on clubs. We were paying like 20% under wholesale. When I bought my old DCI's from Titleist in '95 I only paid $270 for 2-SW. That is hard to pass up.

I need to get a job with Mizuno or Titleist. Do you think they'd pay me $70-80k a year to test their clubs? I'm not greedy.

Fairways and Greens.

I can't afford to, but my uncle does. The minute something sparks his fancy, he'll go out buy it and customize it. Try it for a little bit, then sell it and buys something else. So far he hasn't replaced his honma driver.
