This is something that has baffled me for years.

Granted, I'm a math idiot, but I just can't figure out how college team scores are calculated. It's my understanding that only the top 4 scores of the 5-member team are used, but I still can't do the math.

For example, here is the current leaderboard from the Gopher Invitational:

EDIT: I should clarify - I'm talking about the Team "To Par" number.

Round 3 isn't complete for everyone. They seem legit to me. The first "to par" number is only through two rounds.

Except that number changes as the round progresses (i.e., the screencap I posted had LSU an Texas both at +7. Shortly thereafter, both teams went to +8, and the only thing that changed was that the 3 players from each team who had not completed the round, had finished an additional hole.)

And if both those players bogeyed their respective holes wouldn't that make both teams go from +7 to +8?

I think I figured it out.

I think the top 4 scores are determined on a per round basis.

Because it is unlikely that the same player will have the highest (i.e. the discarded score) in all 3 rounds, the "to par" cumulative scores of each individual top 4 player may not add up to the total cumulative score.

(I realize that was a terrible explanation, so if any one can clarify what I am try to say, please feel free.)

Now I'm going to try to do the math to see if it works.

EDIT: Yep, that works. Top 4 scores from each day.
